Vandersteen M5-HPA

Vandersteen M5-HPA (High Pass Amplifiers):  Pair $7950.   The adustable subwoofer High Pass Crossover is built in, so no need for the external crossovers required for the Vandersteen powered speakers.   Can be used with any speaker, but designed and optimized for use with Vandersteen Quatro, Quatro Wood/CT, Kento and all Vandersteen 5 and 7 series speakers.  Can also be used with any Vandersteen powered subwoofer.  Purchased new from HiFi Buys in Atlanta.  Includes 2 ea 20 Amp power cords.  Flat rate shipping is added to the sales price. I  have used a 6' pair of AQ DBW K2's for the past 4 years and before that a pair of 6' AQ DBW Comets.  These amps are early production, serial numbers 102 & 103, and the owner's manual contained no warning regarding cable length.  The issue with longer speaker cables occurred with latter production amps.  When he traced the source of the amplifier problems to long cables, Vandersteen decided to include his own 2.5' AQ manufactured DBW cables with the amps.  Use of any other cable now voids the warranty.  The new M5-HPAs are  $19990.  The cost of a new AQ/Vandersteen cables is approx $3200 per pair from the factory.  Can I guarantee these amps wouldn't be damaged with longer cables?  Nope, and I wasn't tempted to try.  
Buy with confidence.  Paired with the 5a's listed elsewhere, and driven by source components of equal quality, this is a magnificent sounding rig.  And cannot be touched by anything at or near the asking price.
