Unison Research “Unico” Hybrid Integrated Amp, with 2-level mod (upgraded in 2012).
Was $2,290 USD with 2-level mod brand new. I’m selling for $1,100 USD.
80-watt
hybrid integrated amp with 12AU7 triode-based twin-tube input &
MOSFET output stage. The modified unit packs far more punch than its
rated 80 watts. A truly amazing amp--competes with amps $4000-$5000.
Paul Candy (6 Moons): “The Unicos cast a big, room-filling soundscape with awesome
slam, palpable presence and greater extension at both ends of the
spectrum... If you haven't the shekels, beg, borrow or steal the green.
Ultimately, the Level-2 Unico should be compared to $4,000-$5,000
integrated amplifiers. I cannot conceive of anyone not completely
satisfied with it. It's definitely one of the best-sounding amplifiers
in its price range I've heard this past year.”
The basic unit (without the mods) is an award winning amp: “Component of the Year”. Check out this great review: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/unisonresearch/unico.html.
My unit got the two-level mod by Underwood Hifi and Parts Connexion in 2012, described in detail in this stellar review: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/unison2/unico.html.
Paul
Candy: “I will honestly confess that I've never yet cranked an amp to
levels as uninhibited as the Level-2 Unico without being troubled by
distortion. The amp was so clean and controlled that listener fatigue
never became an issue. This was quite an incredible experience! The
Level-2 had no difficulty with any musical genre or volume I chose to
throw at it. It became child's play to identify the slightest system
change effects such as a cable or support footer substitution. Not only
was this a great analytical tool, it was a thoroughly involving, musical
piece of kit with terrific immediacy and presence.”
About ten
years old. I am the second owner. I bought it with no mods and sent it
to Part Connexion for the 2-level mod. I bought it with the tiny dent on
the faceplate – visible in the photo, right above the volume button. It
is in excellent shape; looks great; and operates perfectly--and then
some.
No original box but I have an artist friend who will help
me customize a box for shipping. It comes with an AC cable and the
original, very cool wooden remote.
Reason for selling: smaller house--downsizing to a desk top system.
Buyer pays for shipping (at cost). I will pay for shipping insurance on your behalf and make sure it is properly packed.
Cash, Paypal, or money orders accepted. (I will cover PayPal charges.)
Thanks for looking.
Questions for the seller |
---|
Why the 7/10 rating? Only because it is old. There is also a tiny nick on the faceplate above the volume knob. But otherwise it looks very good and works perfectly. It was also modified in 2012 so all of those parts and upgrades are relatively new. |
