I am streamlining my system to a high-end integrated amp, so up for sale is my fabulous Musical Design SP-2B tube preamp. This is a wonderful piece of audio gear, and clearly a level beyond the CJ PV-10 I ran for many years. The SP-2B has the expected tube "musicality" but with a level of detail I have rarely heard in anything but solid state preamps or tube units costing far more than this bargain did.
Note that this is an SP-2 which has been factory upgraded to "B" status. The front panel says "SP-2", the back panel says "SP-2B Update". You are welcome to scour the photos and even call John Hillig at the factory for confirmation. I am rating it a conservative 8/10, with a small scratch on the top of the case being the only flaw I can find. Check the photos (as bad as they are) -- it's a beautiful piece of equipment.
Tubes are brand new old stock (NOS) Russian Voskhod 6N23P / E88CC / 6DJ8 from tubes-store.com, and they sound MUCH better than those they replaced.
It is in great shape and peforms flawlessly. Buyer pays shipping and 3% Paypal fee. I will ship worldwide for a $20 surcharge, but not to countries with import restrictions. Buyer must confirm that the unit will work with their local voltage and frequency specifications. Thanks for your interest!

I know your ad states the only flaw is a small scratch on top of the case but in the pics I see what look like nicks on the top front left and right edge of the faceplate and a larger something on the backside top edge of the faceplate in the pic showing the rear of the unit..I'm hoping these are just photo flashes or something..Also do you have the box and packing it came in? There might be a couple of tiny nicks in the paint on the front faceplate, but they are extremely hard for my eyse to pick up. It's a sharp machined edge so it's likely impossible to keep it completely virgin over time. I don't see what you're referring to on the back faceplate.
I don't think it's a struggle to [filtered] it 8/10, but if you want to think of it as 7/10 then do so. By my standards, the thing looks almost perfect. |
