For sale is my personal Cary SLP-50B preamplifier. This venerable model uses the SRPP configuration that has been in use in high-end audio since the 1940’s. This configuration reduces distortion by using two triodes per channel so that the one triode can supply the current to the triode performing the amplification.
The Cary SLP-50B configured with 6922 (E88CC) tubes as a SRPP with a gain of 20db. Frequency response is 5 hz to > 20khz. The stock unit has a wonderful sound but also has a tendency to suffer from AC noise related issues and faulty switch gear. I have added a ground lift switch, updated the grounding system, and increased the power supply noise rejection. These changes have reduced any noise and hum, only audible at idle, providing deeper backgrounds and crisper imaging.
This unit is sold with JJ tubes with 50 hours of break in. The Duend Criatura tube damping rings are an additional $30. Tube life is rated at 10,000 hours.
Because of the age of the unit I completely updated it as follows, interior pictures show the unit before and after:
Surge protection via surge suppressing caps and varistor
Spike limiters on all diode bridges
Improved power supply noise rejection up from 85 to > 105db (all caps replaced with films & low ESR)
Heavy duty switches
Alps Blue Velvet volume control
Audio Research coupling caps
Audio grade Takman metal film resistors in place of military spec Vishay
Ground lift switch
Star grounding system in place of chassis grounding

Performance of the headphone jack will depend on the headphones. Testing with cheap Sony headphones revealed a wonderful midrange and highs for vocalist and jazz pieces. Plenty of volume but bass is limited due to interaction with the headphones. This is not a problem when used as a preamp.
The unit has light wear with no pitting of chrome.
