We’re Stereo Exchange, located in New York City. We've been in business since the 1970s and are a major high-end dealer. We have all the current top brands on display in our huge showroom.

These TWO Entec 12-f20 subs are used, and in fine shape. We are selling them as a pair.

The cabinets, which are covered in a gloss-black “formica” type finish, are in very nice shape.

We picked these up from a client’s house, and heard them there before we unhooked his system.

They are as good as their reputation would have you believe.

Some consider Entec to be the ultimate subwoofer from the standpoint of musicality, and, from what we heard, they may be right.

Having two subwoofers produces more natural bass. I will explain…

The wavelength of deep bass notes is about 10-55 feet, and microphones in concert halls are often 10-100 feet apart, so the bass that gets picked up ends up in RANDOM PHASE in total, on each channel, especially since bass producing instruments may be 10 feet apart.

If you have two subwoofers in your room, then the stereo bass also comes out quite randomly in phase, adding in some parts of the room, and cancelling, partly, in other parts of the room as the bass bounces around.

Most systems use ONE subwoofer.

The problem here is that the one subwoofer SUMS the bass, so any out of phase bass it receives from the two channels gets completely canceled out 100%, and never appears in any part of the listening room, causing you to turn the level UP on the sub.

Now along comes a bass note that is IN PHASE between the channels, and the sub puts out TOO much bass, making you want to turn the bass DOWN.

This is why you will never find the “perfect” bass level setting using one sub.

The other problem is that, although bass is truly non-directional, you still hear LESS bass as you move further away from a sub, so if you place a single sub, say, in the left corner of the room, you may not be able to hear where the bass is coming from, but you certainly WILL hear more bass on the left side of the room!

I take advantage of that in apartments where neighbors will complain if there is too much bass.

I place the subwoofer DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE LISTENER’S FAVORITE SEAT!

Now I can turn the bass LEVEL way down low, and the neighbors don’t hear it.

Using TWO subs like this, one on each side of the listener, creates a more even sound field in the room, so that’s even better.

Since these subs are VERY strong, and since they come with very heavy Sound Anchors stands, you may even want to place your main speakers, if small, on TOP of the subs, creating, in effect, two full range speakers that go down to the lowest bass notes that a human can hear.

The crossover that comes with the system was designed to introduce no sonic problems.

The input gets connected to your preamp’s output.

The main outputs that connect to your main amplifier can be high pass filtered or NOT FILTERED. They can be set to full range.

In this case, this means that if your preamp has TWO sets of outputs, you can keep your amp connected directly to your preamp, and run the OTHER set of preamp outputs to the Entec crossover, leaving the crossover’s outputs with nothing connected.

Additionally, the crossover for the subwoofer is PASSIVE, so it introduces no noise.

By having the small crossover box, you can adjust the level and crossover frequency of BOTH subs are the same time without having to reach behind each sub individually, which is a real convenience.

On each sub is a NOTCH FILTER, since many rooms have one frequency (due to the length of the room) where the bass might “boom”. Now you can simply notch out that boom frequency.

There is also a BOOST control for the really deep bass, if you want a little more “oomph”.

Whoever get this rather complete set will, I’m sure, be head-over-heels happy.

Shipping will cost a fair amount, with TWO sound anchors stands, two crates, and another pair of boxes with the grills and the crossover and cables that connect the woofers to the crossovers.

Figure not less than $200 anywhere, and likely more like SEVERAL hundred dollars (or whatever it is!) if you live on the West Coast. We will NOT "mark up" the shipping.

In return, we are setting the RESERVE super low, so they will still come out a bargain.
