Marantz AV-8003 A/V PrePro

I am original owner of this unit, bought in 2009. It's in pristine condition, marked 8/10 only because of age. 

This is still an excellent pre-pro which still does it all (except Dolby Atmos). It's been the only preamp in a system designed for audiophile music listening as well as movie watching. The "shiny disc" player serves as a transport only, feeding raw digital signals via HDMI to the Marantz's excellent DAC's and computing processors. SACD and CD audio discs sound great in "pure direct" mode, and the processing of Dolby Digital, Dolby True HD, DTS, DTS Master Audio, and even DVD-A is first-class as well.  The older formats work well too. For example, if your movie classic movie has only a stereo soundtrack, Pro Logic II does a fine job of turning it into a surround sound experience.

"net-friendly" A/V pre/pro/tuner, that
means a high capacity and well shielded power supply so each circuit has all the
current it needs and stray leakage from the transformer doesn't interfere with
data signals. To that end, Marantz engineers specified a low-flux toroid
transformer and encased it in an anti-magnetic steel shield for even greater
stray flux control. And because interference can come from outside as well as inside, they provided
the AV8003 with a heavy copper-plated steel chassis to lock out electromagnetic
and radio frequency noise as well as external vibrations.

"Inside the chassis, premium parts are carefully arranged in a
short-signal-trace configuration so that entertainment signals don't suffer
corrupting influences. And analog audio outputs include balanced connections via
XLRs (configured to the "pin 2 = hot" standard) to insure noise-free data
transmission from the AV8003 to a balanced-input power amplifier.
