Multiple reviews....here are some excerpts for your reading and to support the quality of this AVP.
From Sound and Vision – “The AVP-A1HDCI and POA-A1HDCI are about as state-of-the-art as you will find, and that is sure to be the case for some time to come. Yes, they are pricey, but they should last a lifetime. I can’t image what could be coming down the road from any manufacturer that would make these products obsolete anytime soon. So, from that perspective, you should consider this a long-term investment.”
From Home Theatre Review – “• The feature sets are nothing short of impressive. If you want to get the most out of Blu-ray and its HD audio-video capabilities right now, it’s either this Denon, the Integra or a $35,000 Mark Levinson No. 502 AV preamp and the Levinson doesn’t have HDMI 1.3, even at its price tag, despite sounding really, really (really) good.
• It’s hard to find any AV preamp that has this many inputs and outputs. The varying ways you can configure this preamp to make your system do whatever you dreamed up seems almost unlimited. Let’s put it this way - we’d be pretty impressed if you found the limit of what this preamp could do in terms of configuration possibilities in today’s theater (don’t tell me you ran out of inputs because of your Beta deck, an S-VHS machine and a laserdisc player).”
Home Theater Hifi – “The Denon AVP-A1HDCI SSP and POA-A1HDCI power amplifier represent the next level in surround sound flexibility. The SSP will decode anything, including SACD and the new high def movie soundtracks. It sets up easily, in spite of a very complex, powerful set of menu options, and with its on-line firmware update capability, will refuse to be out of date with improvements and other features that emerge. It is designed specifically as a digital processor. If you are still using the two-channel analog outputs on your CD player, you might consider some other processor, but for those of you with a rack full of HDMI sources, this setup will give you great satisfaction.”
I’ve included a thorough blog dedicated to all the DENON AVP owners out there – there is a treasure trove of information on how to get the most out of these technical AVP monster from Japan!
