Rogue Ares Phono Silver

The Rouge Ares phono. This item was purchased about three years ago from an authorized Rogue dealer. When I first received the Ares, I asked Rouge about tube upgrades and Mark sent me four upgraded tubes ($150.00), while these have some hours on them, they should have plenty of life left in them. About 18 months ago, I asked Rouge if they had ever thought about a beefed up power supply for the Aires. After a few back and forth conversations, I ended up exchanging the stock power supply and $700.00 for a new power supply, which they packaged in a matching Aires chassis (minus the tube cage). Thus, this is a one of a kind Aires with two chassis.

The step up inside the Ares is the standard Red Cinemag 3340. I urge you to read the reviews on this linked via the Rogue website. The stock Ares is very good, but when you pair this with an external step up such as Bob's 1131, the combo blows away phonos in the 7.5k range.  I compared the Aires combo to a number of other phonos in this price range (7k to 10k) and it was really no comparison. I liked the 1131combo, although to my tastes, it works even better with the Choir Audio SUT H or a ZYX pre-pre (both of which are 2x the price of the 1131). I currently have a ZYX UNI 2 cartridge. Note you could also get Rogue to swap in a blue 1254 Cinemag which would be the cheapest way to upgrade.

The reserve on this is a very fair US$1200.00.
