Speakers were purchased approx. 8 years ago and used less than 20 hours. They have sat in living room for all this time and never used. See description below for details:

The North Tempest loudspeaker was designed
specifically as a full range floor standing loudspeaker system for large
listening rooms and home theaters. 

 

Sharing the same Scan-Speak
woofers as the Passion, low frequency
performance again takes advantage of the enormous, patent-protected Scan-Speak
motor, massive enclosure and optimally tuned ELF-port.   The Tempest
is a full range loudspeaker, voiced to take full advantage of the
exceptional excursion capabilities of the Scan -Speak woofers, with tight,
solid bass down to 34 Hz.

 

The upper bass and midrange
benefit from the D'Appolito driver configuration, which minimizes nearby
boundary interactions and makes this critical region more articulate.

 

The transition region from
the upper midrange to low treble is accomplished via an optimally tuned
progressive third order crossover network featuring enormous 8 AWG inductors
and the finest film-foil polypropylene capacitors. The crossover was designed by ear, but has measured performance of
a remarkable ±0.5 dB and a "theoretically perfect" antiphase null.  The transition from woofer to tweeter is
absolutely seamless.

 

The tweeter is the 28mm Scan
Speak Revelator hand-coated silk dome, providing high frequency performance
that is both soft and incredibly clean.

 

Sound staging is first
rate.  By carefully matching the drivers
and all crossover components, this loudspeaker can "disappear" like a
mini monitor, yet has the bass of a much larger system.

 

The North Tempest is a unique combination of powerful
low end dynamics, midrange liquidity, a sweet top and exceptional imaging, to
recreate an audio experience that is thoroughly convincing and completely
involving.   This loudspeaker system is
an excellent match for the most demanding two-channel applications and is
