Michael Green Audio Classic 60 Full Range Free Resonant Floor Standing Speakers
These are rare full range speakers built like musical instruments. Unlike most current speakers with rigid or damped cabinets, these speakers are designed to resonate and integrate with the drivers. Like a musical instrument, they are tunable using the Tuning Bar included in the cabinet of the speaker. To support the speakers on bare floor or carpet, 2 sets of 3 MGA Cones are also included.
Tuning
Using the Tuning Bolts, the speaker can be tuned across a range from focused to open and spacious.
The free standing MGA Cones can also be used to further tune the sound of the speaker by varying their placement under the cabinet.
Free Resonance
Because the drivers and cabinet are designed to work together and complement one another, the 60’s have a sensitivity of 92 db and work great with tubes and will sound terrific driven by only 20 w/ch, and even better with additional power.
When Michael Green comes to Chicago mine is one of his reference systems. The soundstage is huge. Michael has been visiting Stereophile forum of late, sharing the advantages of Tuning. http://www.stereophile.com/forum. Also, check out http://tuneland.techno-zone.net/t13-tuning-step-by-step for more information on free resonance and tuning.
I have taken very good care of these speakers. You’ll notice from the pics that there is only one small ding on one of the upper side corners. They are very amp-friendly and have a very natural sound.
I hate to give these speakers up but I’m moving to South America and can’t take them with me. Sometime down the road I’ll order a new set of custom voiced MGA speakers.
For those of you who know this design, you may want to consider the voiced platforms (see pics) for $600/pr.
Feel free to call Michael about this particular pair (702-762-3245).
