If you are ready for a new audio experience that is a departure from the ubiquitous "mini-box" and ear-bud sound experience, then read on.
This demo pair was used at Capital Audiofest 2011 and 2012 and commented by John Atkinson, chief editor of Stereophile Magazine "...natural tonal qualities and great vitality".
Further refinements have been made since and these speakers are at their best behavior ever. They are big--and their sound is equally as big.
These custom speakers are a unique offering and departure from the far too common conventional breadbox and mini-tower designs along with their size limitations. Their open performance characteristic provide a great option to live music in the home even with low powered single ended solid state or 300B, EL84 tube amps which is what they are voiced with. Once you hear your music through the Cathedrals, there is no going back.
This Cathedral 3113 demo pair was featured at Capital Audiofest for two years and is a good representation to what is delivered to an ordering customer. At audio shows, it was loved by many and described "as smooth as silk" sounding with tube amplification. Many were surprised at the lack of "honkyness" from such a large horn speaker, and this is done purposely in the crossover design.
These speakers are produced with USA made Eminence Pro drivers, custom design crossover components, solid cherry (base, all trim, rear pieces) and furniture-grade plywood internally-reinforced labyrinth cabinet, bi-ampable, bi-wireable, adjustable high frequency, adjustable non-slip elastomer feet, sound-studio foam damping, and vintage Altec H 811-B horns. There is no MDF board used anywhere. The speakers are finished all around and have dual gold plated binding post pairs for bi-amping (solid copper jumpers for conventional hook up). Horn is controlled by L-Pad adjustment on right side of speakers.
The sensitivity of these speakers is approximately 100 dB.
Model 7117 based upon the Altec 511 horn with a slightly wider cabinet is available also, please inquire.
