This demo pair was used at Capital Audiofest 2011 and 2012 and commented by John Atkinson, chief editor of Stereophile Magazine "...natural tonal qualities and great vitality".

Further refinements have been made since and these speakers are at their best behavior ever. Since they are big--and their sound is equally as big--I will kick in $600 towards any shipping cost, and will deliver in the DC metro area for just $75. Local auditions are welcomed.

READY TO GO PAIR, NO NEED TO WAIT FOR BUILD TIME!

These made-to-order speakers are a unique offering and a departure from the ubiquitous shoe box and mini tower speaker designs. Made-to-order large and open efficient speakers similar to the Altec A7 of years ago, but taller and with a labyrinth cabinet that produces lower bass extension. They provide a great option to live music in the home when attending a favorite concert or event is not possible--this was one of the motives for their unusually large design. A good front end system and a set of Cathedrals will fix the craving for live music. As a side benefit, they are incredibly open and perform quite well with low power tube units such at the 300B, EL84, EL34 audiophile tubes. If you own a SET tube amplifier or power monoblocks, you need to hear them through the Cathedrals.

They are equipped with Eminence's best woofer, the Kappalite 3015LF with a cast aluminum basket and motor loaded with a Neodymium magnet. This woofer can handle a maximum music program of 900 watts, yet delivers the efficiency needed by single watt tube amps at 99.8 dB 1W/1M. The original Altec H-811B horns are appointed with the Eminence PSD:2002 one inch compressed exit driver that features a Polyimide former and two inch titanium dome diaphragm. This driver delivers 105 dB 1W/1M, so a compensation circuit is utilized to bring these drivers into harmony.

This Cathedral 3113 demo pair was featured at Capital Audiofest for two years and is a good representation to what is delivered to an ordering customer minus full break-in time--no need not wait for any break-in! At the shows, it was loved by many and described "as smooth as silk" sounding with tube amplification. Many were surprised at the lack of "honkyness" from such a large horn speaker, and this is done purposely in the crossover design.

These speakers are produced with USA made Eminence Pro drivers, custom design crossover components, solid cherry (base, all trim, rear pieces) and furniture-grade plywood internally-reinforced labyrinth cabinet, bi-ampable, bi-wireable, adjustable high frequency, adjustable non-slip elastomer feet, sound-studio foam damping, and vintage Altec H 811-B horns. There is no MDF board used anywhere. The back of the speakers is finished as the front with manufacturer label and four 5-way gold plated binding posts, one for high frequency and one for low frequency. Solid copper jumpers are provided for conventional two-channel system connection (not Cardas as pictured). The L-Pad adjustment is on the right side of both speakers.

The sensitivity of these speakers is approximately 100 dB 1 meter.

The model 7117 based upon the Altec 511 horn with a slightly wider cabinet is available also, please inquire.
