It is a recommended in the March 2014 Absolute Sound.

Note that the photo is the new front MK3 but the back rendering is the back of the original. The Jolida FX Tube DAC MK3 is our current favorite inexpensive tube DAC. The MK3 replaces the MK2 and adds a preamp and headphone amp to the MK2. The volume control is an Alps Blue Velvet control.

It uses ESA Clarity caps from England and a Burr Brown 1798 DAC chip. The Hi rez 96k USB input upsamples all inputs to 24.192k while the coax and optical inputs decode inputs signal up to 24.192k.

The DAC has the warm liquid mids of tubes. It has good bass and extension for a product at this price. It also has a very good soundstage.

We have designed mods for it that makes it a lot better. The L-1 mod was designed by Chris Johnson, the founder and former president of Sonic Frontiers.

Jolida honors the factory warranty on the modified DAC.

The following outlines our Level-1 modification for the Jolida Glass FX MK 2 tube DAC:

a) Six ELNA “RFS – Silmic II” series audio-grade electrolytic coupling capacitors are added in the power supply. These are super low ESL & ESR.

b) Two MUNDORF Supreme non-inductive metalized polypropylene capacitors are added to the output coupling caps positions.

c) 1.5 feet of CONNEX BL-Ag 2 x 23 awg 99.99% pure silver, solid-core, interconnect cable, with drain wire, and full shield is used to wire the new parts. These are custom made for us by DH LABS.

d) 1 pr. of VAMPIRE CM-2/CB direct gold over copper body, RCA Female Jacks replace the brass jacks of the stock unit

e) 10 feet WBT Solder used throughout

f) 3 hours total labor
