This is one of the best DACs I've ever heard (the mods make all the difference), which is why I bought it. I paid $4,000 for it about five years ago. This ECD1 was modded by Empirical Audio, and the upgrades alone cost more ($1200) than my asking price. It's incredibly musical, open, and transparent - which is why I loved it.
I'm moving on to a music server now, so my ECD1 will make great music somewhere else. The mods also include two SPDIF (RCA) digital inputs, one optical input, and one balanced XLR input. Analog outputs are balanced and unbalanced.
This DAC upsamples all digital inputs to 24 bit, 192 khz. It accepts all digital input signals from 16 bit through 24. This was the DAC I've been using in a $45K system. I've heard a number of new DACS (DacMagic, Wyred 4 Sound, etc.) in the $1500 - $2000 range that don't sound as good as this one does. It's the signal path with 'best in class' modded components that does it.
Buyer pays insured shipping. Thanks, and enjoy the music!
