Utilizes the same chipset that XRCD's are mastered on, the JVC K2.
Personally, I feel an audio pinnacle for redbook sound and pure sonic nirvana.

There is absolutely no glare, no edge, no cd harshness at all. That simply doesn't exist in the Reimyo world.
It has transparency, tone, slam, dynamics and analog qualities like a well put together vinyl rig. The bass is fully developed and an enriching part of the listening experience. Lots of colors and textures. ZERO digititus from a fully solid state design.

Build quality is marvelous. Apart from the standard metal top plate, the whole chassis is very thick aluminum. The bottom plate is a solid aluminum plate on which the internals are mounted.

- The DAP-777 is fully balanced with XLR outputs as well as RCA single ended outputs.

- It has the following digital inputs: AES, RCA SPDIF, BNC and Optical TOSLINK.

- Phase switch (VERY useful!)

- Separate power supplies for the digital and analog circuits.

- This is the improved MKII version which started from serial numbers: 0502001 and up. The serial # of this unit is: 9807030 which is towards the last batches off the manufacturing line before getting discontinued.

- The latest model is the DAP-999ex which has the 24bit K2 chip. However, the DAP-777 has better build quality and tighter specifications electrically.
For example:
* the DAP-999ex has S/N Ratio: Better than 114dB (IHF-A), the DAP-777 MKII Signal-to-Noise Ratio: Better than 117dB.
* the DAP-999ex has Linearity: +/-0.5dB (+10dBm ~ 90dBm) 1kHz IHF-A, the DAP-777 MKII Linearity: ±0.3dB (+10dBm ~ -90dBm) 1kHz IHF-A
* DAP-999ex Power Consumption: 15W vs. DAP-777 MKII Power Consumption: 13.5W, hence runs cooler with lesser power induced noise.

Both units sound close, however the older unit did portray slightly better specs owing to more care and effort I feel at the time by the designer.

- Comes with original box. No power cord.

- Condition is a beautiful 8/10 on the audiogon scale. Some light scratches on the footers and footer inverted discs/pucks. Some hairline scratches on the bottom plate which is inevitable due to being solid aluminum. Unit is extremely well taken care off. Cosmetically excellent.

- With a Phillips CD-Pro M2 based transport (also used in the CDT-777 Reimyo Transport), or a high quality USB to SPDIF Converter, or a high quality transport you will realize how potent the redbook format really is. Reimyo really did address the shortcomings of digital. Listen to a Alan Yoshida mastered jazz XRCD like Lee Morgan - Tomcat and hear it just like the JVC XRCD mastering facilities heard it :)
