Audio Note DAC 3 Digital/Analog Converter

It is a rare occasion when I put one of my pieces of Audio Gear up on AudiogoN that I actually stop to question myself as to weather I really want to sell it. This is one of these moments. I am offering one of my Audio Note DAC 3's.

About 18 years ago I bought 3 of these. One was for my 2 channel system, One was for my whole house audio system, and this one was in storage in the event should a catastrophic event ever occur, So far no asteroids, earthquakes, or alien invasions have occurred, so I guess I have to let it go

My wife has informed me that I need to part with the one sitting in the closet. She has reminded me on many occasions that none of the unfortunate world events have hurt the sound quality or the continued functioning of the DAC 3 used in the main 2 channel system, So I relented. She also wants me to part with my other CAT SL1 preamp, but I'm not there yet.

OK, enough about my neurotic behavior. The reason that I bought 3 of these was because there is nothing that comes close to the sound of these. In fact there is STILL nothing that I have heard at any price that eclipses the DAC 3.

Some say the reason that the DAC 3 still trounces everything in its path is the perfect architecture of the Burr Brown PCM 63. It is also possible that Audio Note uses a a 6922 tube output stage. There are other proprietary circuit designs that choose simplicity rather than complexity and and prevail sonically as a result. Less is more with a shorter less convoluted signal path.
