Offered for sale is the highly regarded universal disc player from Marantz in excellent condition, both cosmetically and functionally.

Whether playing CD, SACD, Bluray, DVD or DVD-Audio discs, the sound from its 7.1 RCA and 2 channel XLR analog outputs is the best I have heard.

This reference player has 6 of the highly acclaimed AKM4399 DACs used for each of the channels (please refer to the detailed specifications sheet in the pictures as well as the feature details from Marantz site below)

AKM 4399 DACs are the ones that are used in the latest generation ultra expensive reference ESOTERIC players K-01, K-03, K-5…..

This is an audiophile’s SA-CD / CD / Blu-ray / DVD-Video / DVD-Audio / Universal Disc Player!

I have compared the sound of this unit to Esoteric DV-60, the Oppo BDP83SE, BDP-95 and the new BDP-105 players in my all electrostatic multi-channel system and there is no contest. The Marantz beats them and every other player I have ever heard in sheer musicality, presence, detail and fatigue free sound that you could enjoy for hours on end. The biggest difference is that music sounds like real music with an analog sound signature instead of the others’ digital sound signature.

The unit has a proprietary (similar to Esoteric players) high precision all aluminum disc mechanism that reads at multiple speeds to extract the best out of all the discs.

This player’s architecture is shared with other players from Marantz’s parent company, D&M Holdings – namely the Denon’s DVD-A1UDCI and the Mcintosh MVP-881. I have listened to the other two at the dealers along with this one before making my purchase decision. This player has the best analog section of all 3 players – Marantz using 6 of the AKM4399 DACs with others using 5 of them. Marantz also has the proprietary HDAM modules to extract the tiniest detail from the background.

Marantz themselves admitted that they will never make a player like this again as the market for audiophile universal players with this level of world class build quality is a very small market and they would rather cater to the high volume mass market with generic players…..

I am sadly letting this player go as I am dismantling my system to clear my man-cave to make it into a playroom for my 3 year old son.

The unit is roughly 3.5 years old and has given me sonic bliss with trouble free performance.

Will bring years of pleasure to the new owner.

The remote control has been always kept on a plastic bag in order to look as new as possible.

Detailed features and specifications from the Manufacturer below:

Flexibility to bring your favorite sources to life. Quality to satisfy your passion for the best. Simplicity for intuitive operation. That’s what the UD9004 delivers.

Pick a disc. Any disc. From your oldest CD to your newest Blu-ray.

The UD9004 seamlessly reproduces them with absolute clarity and in stunning high definition. From orchestral masterpieces to the latest Hollywood blockbuster, the UD9004 masters them all. And the front-panel SD card reader lets you enjoy digital photos and portable music playlists as well.

Audio reproduction directly traceable to our vaunted Reference Series components.

Video presentation of both standard and high-definition sources that rivals film’s transparency.

The UD9004 is a no-holds-barred assault on conventional design. The super-rigid copper-plated chassis eliminates unwanted vibration and external interference. The exclusive disc mechanism extracts every bit of information while proprietary circuitry preserves and enhances every nuance of sound and picture.

The UD9004 Universal Disc Player. For the past. The present. And the future.

Calling the UD9004 a “disc player” understates its capabilities. Yes, it will play virtually all 5” silver (or gold, or green, or . . . ) discs you entrust to it. There’s also an SD card reader slot behind the front panel’s drop down door so you can enjoy photos or videos direct from your camera to your home theater system.
What formats will the UD9004 handle? The list is almost mind-numbingly long: Blu-ray (BD Video Profile 2 with Bonus View support), BD-Java, BD-R/RE, DVD-V & -A, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, SA-CD (stereo and multi-channel), CD, and CD-R/RW. Let’s not forget MP3, WMA, JPEG, DivX version 6, Kodak picture CDs, or AVCHD files.

But the number of formats is almost secondary to how well the UD9004 processes each for your enjoyment. On the audio side, you’ll find four individual circuit boards in a separate shielded chassis section.

This means that even complex layouts aren’t subject to the artifacts usually generated by
closely-spaced signal traces. And we’re using both HDAM and HDAM-SA2 modules to provide inaudible stage-to-stage signal transfer. The audio section’s power supply includes a coppershielded toroidal transformer to virtually eliminate spurious flux leakage interference.

If you think you’ve seen this approach before, you have – in the Reference Series SA-7S1 Super Audio CD player!

The UD9004 adds a Pure Direct mode that shuts off video and display circuits for absolutely crystalline sound.

XLR balanced outputs let you connect your UD9004 directly to a high quality preamplifier/processor.

Analog Devices’ SHARC 32-bit floating point processor handles Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio decoding while 192 kHz/32-bit D/A converters hand off decoded analog signals to the finely-tuned audio circuitry.

Video processing is no less capable. The Silicon Optix “Realta” processor provides pixel-by-pixel conversion for high accuracy film presentation. Even standard definition sources get full 1080p up-scaling thanks to the Realta’s 10-bit internal processor. DNR (Dynamic Noise Reduction) acts on both SD and HD signals for ultra-smooth reproduction. For high quality analog output, there’s a 297 MHz/14-bit video DAC converter for Component video signals and a dedicated 297 MHz/12-bit video DAC converter for S-Video and Composite video signals. A fine adjustment menu allows easy tweaking to suit your system if needed.

You say watching movies is your forte? Then let the UD9004’s HDMI output send a 24 fps (frames per second) 1080p signal to your compatible display. This avoids the problems often associated with yesterday’s 3:2 pulldown circuitry that matched film’s 24 fps rate to video’s 30 fps. This preserves film’s “flavor” and subtle color shifts.

Concerned about possible interference between the video and audio signals in a single HDMI cable? The Marantz UD9004 solves that with our “Native/Direct” HDMI output. It separates video and audio at the player itself and routes each to the appropriate downstream components for minimal signal degradation.

But perhaps we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

At the heart of the UD9004’s performance is a proprietary disc mechanism specifically engineered for exceptional rigidity, anti-magnetic and anti-vibration qualities, noise isolation, as well as providing a virtually dustproof environment. The die-cast enclosure with a double-layer top cover helps minimize resonances for accurate and stable data recovery from any disc.

The UD9004’s chassis is no less impressive. The design is executed in 1.2mm-thick copper-plated steel augmented by a 3.2mm bottom plate.

Three separate compartments house analog circuitry, transport mechanism/video processing, and power supply respectively.

Machine-milled solid copper feet support the entire component for extra
stability. The cosmetically sophisticated curved front panel is made of aluminum
and reinforced resin. There’s a drop-down door to hide infrequently used controls.
Although designed as a superlative stand-alone component, the UD9004 is ready for the most advanced custom-designed systems. Adjustable audio delay up to 200 ms lets you sync video and audio for distraction-free enjoyment.

An RS-232C supplements flasher inputs and outputs for total system control. The UD9004 responds to discrete power on/off commands, too. A detachable AC cord allows easy installation of the UD9004 in tight quarters. An optional mounting kit will let you place the UD9004 in a standard 19” equipment rack.

Other niceties include a display dimmer, pure direct audio circuitry, fold down front panel, an aluminum-topped remote, and the ability to update the unit’s firmware via an internet connection.

All this assures you that the UD9004 will be a top-ranked universal disc player/SD card reader for quite some time into the future.

No planned obsolescence here. Certainly not from Marantz.

And that makes the UD9004 perfect for you.
