In Tape We Trust!!

I'm an authorized reseller of Alter Ego Appearance Reel Reel Tape Machines in Brooklyn.

Genius engineer and technician Alexsander Dorin started creating this tape machine three years ago. Alex did so in response to the rapidly decreasing availability of technicians who perform this level of rebuilding. Photos do not do this machine justice; the human eye must see it to fully appreciate its beauty and craftsmanship.

Alter Ego Appearance combines art with technical skill. Custom would be an understatement, as this machine is its new creation: a snowflake. Every part of the tape decks is rebuilt: brand new front panels (from scratch), switches, head blocks, caps, motors—everything is rebuilt! It is as new as a restored machine can get.

Alter Ego Appearance is located in Brooklyn, NY, and its machines can be experienced at Handmade Audio's showroom in Flemington, New Jersey.

This is my demonstration machine, a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that has been restored and modified, unlike any other Technics 1506 four-track. The performance of this four-track machine behests any analog or digital playback system, regardless of price. I've compared vinyl and analog systems costing north of $100,000 to this machine; I am still looking for something to come close to it regarding sonic performance. Wow, and flutter is immeasurable to the human ear. The fit and finish are superb, and the build quality is world-class. Sonically, it's an experience that gets you as close to the analog master as possible.

The Technics 1560 has long been regarded as one of the prized tape decks. Impeccable consideration to the points only the most meticulous of audiophiles would understand. Below is a description of this one-of-a-kind rebuild.

REEL MOTORS

The reel motors were wholly disassembled. Plastic tridents, subject to breaking easily, were replaced with metal tridents made from non-magnetic aluminum. Bronze bearings inside the motors were cleaned and filled with lubricant.
Brake drums were removed from the shaft, and the old paint was stripped and repainted with glossy, hard, scratch-resistant high-temperature paint. The quality of this paint is crucial for proper brakes. The table was painted to the base machine color. The shaft assembly with brake drums and tridents was balanced. The machine can be easily modified to accept an external tape preamp for ultimate performance.

CAPSTAN
The capstan motor was disassembled and cleaned. The aluminum cup was removed and replaced with another one made from non-magnetic aluminum. It was precisely machined and polished. The bearings were replaced with the original NOS NSK(made in Japan), which is incredibly silent.

VU METERS have been replaced with brand-new meters.

HEAD BLOCK
The head block was disassembled. The plate was stripped, cleaned, and painted to the base machine color. New metal lettering and some metal accents were applied. Heads were lapped and polished underwater. They were also resoldered and realigned. The head block was reassembled. The 4t-2t switch was also disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. All cheap stickers were replaced by raised 3D lettering.

CONTROL BUTTONS
The control buttons block was disassembled, and the plastic buttons were replaced with CNC-machined aluminum powder-coated to the base color.

TAPE PATH
All bearings were replaced with the original NOS NSK. Where possible, all parts were polished, replaced with nonmagnetic aluminum, and realigned. Some decorative parts were added.

CONNECTORS
All back cheap RCA connectors were replaced with the highest quality audiophile grade gold plated RCA connectors. IEC AC cord connector added.

All visible metal parts are handmade and polished from non-magic aluminum, which has a protective oxide film almost immediately after polishing. It will remain shiny for a long time. All letterings are made from the same metal, 0.75mm raised.

The top plate was replaced with high-quality, non-magnetic aluminum and laser engraved.

All wiring was resoldered, and all capacitors were replaced and readjusted. To simplify future maintenance, all old Philips bolts were replaced with new HEX.

The side panels are made from African Rosewood, also known as Palisander. They are treated with a unique oil blend and polished.

NAB/Hub adapters include a non-magnetic design, reducing static electricity.

This tape machine comes with a one-year parts and labor warranty. Shipping can be arranged globally. Bank wire transfers and personal checks are the only method of payment accepted for this transaction.
