ATR Services ARIA Class A Reference Series Tape Head Playback Electronics
When it comes to mastertape playback the ATR Services ARIA remains in a class by itself. You will find the ARIA used in many of the most notable mastering studios well known to audiophiles such as Bob Ludwig‘s, Mike Wells’, and Puget Sounds Studios, to name just a few.
Created by David Hill of Cranesong LTD and exclusively distributed by Mike Spitz of ATR Services, the Aria‘s outboard electronics offer substantial sonic benefits over stock electronics.
The ARIA is a professional quality reference quality playback tape head preamp due to its high quality, discrete signal path running in pure Class A mode with no IC’s. The ARIA is a balanced, transformerless, design with high current amplifiers. This design translates into more available headroom, enhanced transient response, and extended bandwidth. Sonically, the ARIA is extremely flat with a very “clean”, articulate sound. Its very extended high frequency produces the “air” around instruments and its bass response is very deep and tight. The ARIA provides improved low level micro-sonic detail since it does not suffer from the tube rush noise of some vacuum tube based electronics.
This version of the ARIA is a 2 track, playback only head preamp and has been configured for IEC playback for both 15 or 30 ips. tapes. Gain, as well as high and low frequency equalization are fully adjustable to your playback heads via accurate LED meters that are also used to adjust azimuth. It works optimally with extended response, low output heads that are the best available to today’s audiophiles. Its output connections to preamp are balanced as well.
The ARIA is completely self-contained with its own outboard power supply unit for 120V 50/60 Hz AC. It is an easy bolt on addition to many different tape recorders or it can be used as a stand -alone tape head preamp that connects from the output of the tape recorder’s playback heads to the ARIA’s balanced XLR connections.
