**** CARY SLP-05 *** HIGHLY UPGRADED UNIT---- READ!!

Highly upgraded SLP-05!! Brings this to a new reference level; competes with Audio Research Reference SE. The unit has been upgraded with 12 CuTF VCaps, purchased new from Parts Connexion. The cost of the caps alone is close to $2,900. Also a Revelation audio umbilical connecting power supply to preamp section. Great condition; just back from Cary after a checkup preparing for sale. Brand new top plate on the power supply as there were a few scratches ($400!). Ships safely in two original boxes. - - Performance is absolutely amazing. The stock unit is great but now it has the juice to reach full potential!. I have had Audio Research reference 75 amp, Berkeley and Auralic DACs, Pass amps, Bryston sst2 amps, with Nordost Valhalla cables and power cords and the SLP05 is never the limiting factor and have never felt the need to change. Only selling as I am switching to complete home theater set up with Wisdom inwalls that need bi amplification. But this unit does have home theater bypass if you need to do both. - - Will send new tubes with unit. Also available are high end Tung-Sol tube with low hours. Requires 8 tubes. $100 each for total of $800. Will sell with unit for $350 in lieu of regular new tubes. I have had Primaluna Dialogue 3 premium, Conrad Johnson ET3SE and Asthetix calypso and this blows them away. The Melody I am also selling competes on some levels and is a very enjoyable unit, but as the rest of your equipment gets toward reference level the SLP05 distances itself. Besides the advantages of tubes, where my SLP05 excells with the massive capacitor upgrade and umbilical from power supply is the the tremendous dynamics, explosiveness, and transparency. Thunderous bass along with detail even in complex passages. - - People talk of driving amps directly with DACs but even with Berkeley and Auralic DACs the sound was much better with preamp in between; more dynamic, full, and enjoyable. While with the lesser preamps like the ET3SE and Primaluna there was more transparency using the DACs as preamps; there was zero loss of tranparency with the SLP05 in the chain. - It will be very difficult to get anywhere near this sound for the money.
