The Bowers and Wilkins (B&W) speaker line is perhaps the most prestigious and successful loudspeaker manufacturing company in history. These gorgeous, slender Model P-6 speakers are the top of the B&W Preference Line (P-4, P-5, P-6) and combine elements of Nautilus and Matrix technologies into a slim and powerful design. The speakers throw a huge soundstage and provide ample bass with smooth highs and a perfect midrange, and at 90db these are exceptionally easy to drive with even modest powered amplifiers. Besides a larger cabinet and drivers and better bass response, the essential difference between this P6 and the other speaker models in the Preference Series is a B&W trademark - the free-mounted tweeter - "tweeter on top". Tweeter on top is B&W's Tweeter technology which ensures that the sound remains focused and time-sensitive and that the stereo-image is presented with unparalleled three dimensional accuracy. Combining a 165mm dia Cobex® bass drive unit with the Kevlar® bass/mid-range drive unit and a larger cabinet volume, the P6 delivers high power handling and efficiency with superb bass extension. All six drivers are in essentially flawless condition, both in terms of performance and cosmetics – there are no marks on them. The cabinets are really in exceptional condition, not mint but you have to scrutinize them at a very close distance to see the very minor flaws which are not immediately apparent. There is a one inch edge break on the top rear edge on one cabinet, and some rear side edge breaks near the bottom of the other on either side of the termination cup. The cabinet also has a minor scrape on the rear bottom edge. There are a few other near microscopic imperfections on both cabinets, and the bottom surfaces have normal scuffs and scrapes. These extremely minor flaws have been touched up beautifully (except on the bottom) and are easier felt by touch than actually seen. The gold termination posts have some minor tarnish on them. Note that I do not have the original gold colored shorting clips on the bi-wire termination posts, but will supply superior sounding custom made shorting cables for the sale. The two metal mesh tweeter grills are in fantastic shape, and the two large cloth grills are also beautiful with only one tiny ½” scuff near the bottom of one. Otherwise there are no holes, no stains and no missing or cracked portions of the grill frame. As you can see from the photos, these speakers have been meticulously cared for their entire lives and are in a beautiful state of preservation! One of the best things about this design is that the speakers only take up an 8” x 12” footprint – perfect for the relatively small room sizes that exist in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can get full-range performance from an incredibly svelte and elegant package. The real Rosenut wood finish is exquisite and in exceptional condition with minimal blemishes.
