hi,
not sure if you still use the gryphon exorsit, but could you please tell me how it is being used? do you connect it to the preamp via single -ended cables?
the on line menu doesn't go into details on how the unit is connected.

i appreciate your advise.

I never did get round to buying that unit. By the time I'd gotten my act together, it had been sold. . . .

panamahat

Congratulations on a great system.
Could you please tell me how the Forsell Air Reference CD Transport compares to other transports that you have owned? Have you ever had any problems with it?

exlibris

Owner
ive been told yes its in perfect working order, price would seem low compared to what i have seen. however im don't have the energy to travel to the other side of the country to have a look, so i think i'll concentrate on the amp, dac upgrades, and new speaker cable.

I just purchased a furutech rd2, quite amazed at the results, like a fog lifted from the sound.
Without getting too technical, please! can someone tell me how this unit operates? I.e. How it affects the cd itself to produce a cleaner sound ??
cheers, nick

Panamahat,
yes is a good price, but is it in perfect working and cosmetic condition? Be sure before to buy it, the transport is the most fragile(the mechanism of optical lens is fine tunning) piece of system...

Owner
gryfon, ive seen a forsell here for 2500 usd, is that price acceptable u think ?

Owner
i will be sending the dac back to mike elliott for upgrades, probably early next year..

panamahat

If I may suggest to you take your great sounding DA10 Counterpoint(it's possible to upgrade it to 24/96, and many people tell me with very impressive results), for the transport don't spend a lot of money to buy a used Forsell Air Reference MK II(not very good transport for the money to pay), looking for a good used Wadia(only transport mounting VRDS transport)or great Krell MD20, both transports are very good choise...

auditioned the ml 28 and 29. Gryfon your right, there was a lot missing.

cd players guys, whats known about the forsell air bearing reference mark II ?

panamahat

The right choice...congratulations.
I look forward to receive your opinion on your upgraded Counterpoint gear by Mike Elliott...

gryfon762

Owner
furthermore..... any thoughts on the ml 28 preamp to replace the bryston ?

panamahat

Owner
ok thanks everyone, I am keeping my counterpoints. i've been in contact with michael elliott and ordering a new transformer and some other upgrades.....

panamahat

Hi Panamahat,
it's true many Counterpoint electronics(power amp, preamp)can to failure after many years, but the quality sound that give to listen is very particular, I can try to call "The Spirit of the sound"! You try to upgrade your Counterpoint power amp and get a SA3000 or 5000 preamp on the used market(to do this on the USA used market is very simple!) and I can assure to you that you'll not repent doing it! Belive me..

gryfon762

You might want to audition the Bel Canto Evo2 amp. It's in your budget (and you might find a good deal as used). While it's not a monoblock it has a great sound.

mmmm ok, thanks a lot frafra, i didnt know that. I may have a look into repairing it and if thats feasible, i'll do it. But otherwise, what amps would have the musicality of my current ? I did have an SA2000 preamp, but it got ditched, transformer failed - again. I know of 3 counterpoint amps here in switzerland that have suffered transformer meltdowns, shame really.

panamahat

Hi Panamahat,
I can suggest to you, if you like the sound of your Conuterpoint power amp, to visit
http://www.altavistaaudio.com/, Mike Elliot can replace your old failured transformer with a new superb plitron transformer, Mike can do many upgrades on this wonderful sounding power amp. Belive me, many regarded power amp like Mark Levinson don't have the musicality of your power amp and if you want to change also the preamp looking to SA3000 or better SA5000 will do a great combo with your NPM Counterpoint.

hi jayric, thanks for the info.
I am hoping to get a pair of KS3035 here on audiogon, which I will complete my speaker cable needs.
La Boite Noire Power Conditioner will be upgraded in the near future by LBN to Reference Standard. I havent seen any Shunyata or R Gray products here in Switzerland, would like to do so however...

System edited: Yeh one of my power amps suffered a catastrophic failure today... I'm now in the market for new/used mono blocks and I'm budgeting for approx. 2500-3000 usd for the pair- Any suggestions as to what units would sit well in my set-up ? regards

panamahat

By using same grade of power kord for all equipment is not a good idea. Normally for Power Amp must using better grade P. Kord and lower grade for pre amp . The best is combine using europe and american maker. Normally american cable goes like more bass and europe more on details. Meanwhile for the speaker cable, I have try Kimble Select and Fadel Art. The best for your system is using Kimble Bifocal XL. Than you can experience the max. performance of your speaker. Later try to get Shunyata or Richard Gray Product and to clean up the electrical supply before entering to the equipment. You can notice a lot of high end system using this product.

oh, yes indeed. top quality texas audio

did u notice - i have no record deck ?!!

panamahat

Wow, I'm most impressed...and not by the system. :-) I spy a copy of Spoons' Girls Can Tell...on vinyl no less. It's not often I see a fan of audio who's also a fan of indie music...I thought I was the only one.

Nice set up. I'm envious.
