Rebuilt and restored Source Turntable, DC Pabst Motor, with custom 24 volt regulated power supply, solid thick walled mahogany base, 14 lb brass platter, 5 point sprung suspension, carefully gone though with dampening in on spring towers, motor mounting points, Very quiet turntable, dynamic, with superb bass. The Lustre Acos GST 801 itself is an under rated tonearm which is compatible with many different cartridges, with adjustable VTA while the record is playing. easily comparable in quality to the Zeta, the SAEC 308, or the Linn Itok in performance, but with a much easier to use VTA adjustment, ,factory pure silver tone arm wiring, and the Luste magnesium head shell . Also Included, but now shown is an extra Pabst motor which took a year to find, to guaranteeing your long term enjoyment of this superb turntable combination.
This Luster has two minor issues, one, the cuing no longer functions properly as it apparently need more silicone, and it is also missing the curing lever. The VTA adjustment is missing the protruding adjustment lever, but it is still fully functional, simply using an Allen wrench to access the threaded hole remaining when the lever was unscrewed, as apparently, the former owner believed both levers could possibly conduct vibration to the arm itself.
Otherwise, the arm,is in very good cosmetic condition, excellent mechanically, with excellent bearings. The arm, as set up on this table does use the very heavy Luster mounting nut, as this additional mass does not adversely affect the spring suspension, as it does some 3 point sprung turntables.
The arm comes with only one factory weight, I believe the middle one. For heavier cartridges, the addition of an axillary weight is appropriate, and a brass weight, as shown, will be included.
I have owned other very good turntables, the Linn Sondek with the Koetsu arm,,an Oracle Series II, highly modified, with Zeta Arm, a modified Empire 498 also with Zeta Arm, as well as several others over the years, and this unit easily exceeds their performance, which is logical, considering the manufacturer developed this design specifically for that purpose..
This sale does not include the platter mat shown in some photos,(which retailed for $500.00 when new, or a tonearm cable, and it does not come with a cartridge.
It will be carefully packed, and the platter bearing, and shaft fully protected, the arm separately packaged, to insure safe arrival.
Much more information is available on this rare turntable on the Vinyl Engine Website, with links to another site maintained by a former employee of the manufacturer, with complete information as to the development of this turntable.
