Date Codes are G-Phi-1 /= 5L.   There is no such code as G-Phi-0.  Apology for typo.

For Sale: Siemens E188CC 7308 Old Siemens 1965 Matched date codes and printed serial numbers.  I bought these as NOS from an old German collector formerly in the German Military. The German military had pretty high standards, and the data here reflect this.  These have the earliest date codes for E188CC; and, I have never tested a better pair.

Matched Data in mutual trans-conductance (MTC) and dynamic emission (DE) (both are my calibrated testers):

Hickok TV-10 professionally calibrated and well validated.  Min is 7,500 and NOS is 12,500

MTC: 15,000/15,000

MTC: 14,750/14,750

Eico 666 (Min is 70 and NOS is 110-120).  Max is 140.  These bang the meter all around.

DE: >140/>140

DE: >140/>140

Rated 8/10 because label is not perfect and pins are scratched from tester insertion--otherwise NOS.  A lesson in NOS .

  • Clear glass all around

  • Perfect silver on top, no burn marks

  • Pins show only marks from inserting in testers and such.  No sign of any tarnishing or burning.

  • The sound.  Only NOS tubes that test 20% or higher than the NOS spec have the ’sparkling’ sound of truly new tubes.
  • True NOS Siemens should test well over the specification of 12,500 Gm, which these do.
  • The seller’s data on a TV7 (Min = 53) were given to me as: 103/104; 102/103.
  • Because they are not in sealed boxes, I cannot guarantee they are true NOS. No one could.

Matched Date Codes stamped on the inside are: G-Phi-1 unequal 5L.  ‘G’ means E188CC.  ‘Phi (a zero with a line through it) 1’ means earlier, true ‘Type 1’ production.  5L means December 1965.  These are actually rarer than pinched waist E88CC.

The old Siemens sound is unique among ALL the 6DJ8/6922/7308 families.  It sounds the most holographic.  The bass cranks.  The high end is ‘liquid’ sounding—but with outstanding detail.   Lateral and 3-D soundstage are both incomparable.  E.O.S.

I also listened to them in the lead position of my very sensitive Decware MLB Headphone amp.  Noise free and microphonic free.

These early Grey Plate Siemens E188CC sound MUCH more refined than later silver plate versions, and sooo much better than the single-stage getter (only a halo support, no ‘splash-shield’—which was made after around 1978, probably in Eastern Germany).  That type is not a very good sounding tube—and—that single post style are what you see most often for $300 and up.  The pair here is ultra-rare and far more refined sounding.

Do your own research on the sound of this early version.
