I bought this a few months ago from another A-goner in totally mint condition (OBM) - in fact, I thought it was new when I unpacked it. This is the iTube version of the Stingray, not the older/cheaper Stingray I or Stingray II models. It has a docking station for an iphone 4, which of course is useless, so I'll include an adapter cable that allows you to run a 5, 6 or ipad. This unit also includes the totally comical 1984 cellphone looking RF remote control which works well over long distances, around corners, in direct sunlight etc., as well as looks damn good with a Don Johnson white linen blazer and pink cotton t-shirt. The headphone jack on this unit is pretty good as well, especially considering what headphone amps cost these days. Also, what could be cooler than sitting at your desk with a set of HD800's attached to an EL-84 tube amp? Pretty much nothing. Instant promotion.
I was using this to drive a pair of Quads, then a pair of LS50's (also for sale). This is a great amp but ultimately not enough power for the Quads. The triode/pentode switch is pretty rad because sometimes you want what you don't have but now you have both. Another great feature is the placement of the interconnect and speaker connections. They are angled away from the power cord for one, and much easier to reach if swapping cables. It also allows for closer placement to the back wall since your 4 inch long WBT connectors aren't sticking straight out the back.
All in all, this is a pretty cool piece of gear that I don't have a use for. It's not been reviewed in quite a while but that shouldn't matter. It's a Manley product so it rocks out, is built to last, and has the best customer support in the business.
I'll also entertain interesting trades for/towards cartridges, turntables or tube amps.

why so cheap? That's market for the amp these days. Manley hasn't promoted the product either which hurts resale. |
