You won’t find this combination posted together anytime soon!  I am selling the following together and cannot break them apart.

If you are reading this ad you know what these units are, the specs and what they are capable of! Buyer is responsible for understanding the specs and  capabilities plus how this will connect into your audio and/or video system.

The P-03 Universal itself is very hard to come by so please consider that this represents, at least for those who wish to have the best in playback of CD, XRCD(all variants), HDCD (16-bit only but stellar playback), SACD, DVD-Audio and DVD-Video all in one system, the best I have personally seen or heard.  The video on this unit for DVD Video upscaled to 1080p, even considering the  unit’s age, still keeps pace with the brand new Oppo 105D Darbee edition that I had to pickup for another room in the house  a few months ago to meet “WAF criteria” for that central room…..As good as the Oppo 105D is, I’d still put this combo well in front for audio and video quality (non-BluRay) .

If you meet my asking price, I will include a pair of VH Audio Symmetry Custom-built AES/EBU 110-ohm 1-meter cables so you can have a very good ‘out of the box’ experience while you search for your destination dual-AES cable setup. I used the Symmetry AES cables for quite some time and found them to give much more in return than their price would indicate, see below for details)

I will supply more detailed hi-rez (10MP) photos of boxes and the units as well as Serial Numbers to any serious buyer who requests them.

• Esoteric P03 Universal Transport - An amazing transport with outstanding video as well as audio performance.The P03 Universal has the same incredible performance as the P03 with the added features of playing "hi-res" DVD-Audio or video. When paired with the Esoteric D03 you have a combination that is hard to beat. Video circuitry can be shut off during audio playback. The build quality is unsurpassed. Features a host of digital inputs and outputs. Plays DVD-Audio and upscales DVD Video to 480i/576i, 480P/576P, 720P, 1080i, 1080P. The video performance is beyond amazing and in the words of an ISF Engineer who used to do my HT calibration, it was the best video he had seen to that point and for many years since thanks to the use of a 14 bit/216 MHz video D/A converter chip ADV 7324 from Analog Devices and the latest digital video scaling chip LSI ABT 1080 from Anchor Bay technologies at the time the unit was built


• Esoteric D-03 Dual-Mono DAC: Hands-down the best DAC I have heard for PCM, up-converted PCM and DSD playback until last week when I heard the P-02/D-02 combination.  Allows for native PCM, SACD and DVD-Audio playback but also gives the ability to up convert PCM to 88.2, 176.4 AND DSD!!! Digital Filter On or Off options, dual AES/XLR, single XLR, RCA, and optical inputs, playback via XLR or RCA with your pre-amp of choice. Can be connected to the P-03U or other Esoteric i.Link compatible device using the appropriate i.Link compatible capable.  A stunning DAC! I also found that it’s playback of Dolby Digital and DTS for DVD-Video playback to provide an amazing 2-channel down mixed  experience that equals many home theater processors standalone. Of course, with i.Link, you can buy 3 D-03s and chain them to the P-03U and have one hell of a surround sound audio-only or home-theater setup!


• The G-03X is a younger sibling of the flagship G-0Rb and is an evolutionary successor to the crystal clock generator model G-0. The G-03X has an OCXO (Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator) circuit on board. The OCXO is a small thermostatic chamber used to heat the combination oscillator core and control circuits at a fixed, high-thermal level. This provides stability to the crystal clock, being free from unwanted characteristic variations. As a result, the G-03X is exceptionally stable at +/- 0.1 ppm clock stability, even within severe thermal environments ranging from -20C to 70C!  The crystal master clock generator G-03X can be used with a wide range of digital source components and can re-clock up to 6 devices with 3 different groups of 2 (each group of 2 can be clocked at a separate setting). Having owned the G-0s previously and finding the result a bit analytical, I observed that the G-03X brought the right about amount of technical precision while bringing enhanced musicality and an organic presentation to the overall playback of the P-03U/D-03. Video was also enhanced by the more precise clocking.

***Note on P-03U: in full disclosure, given the unit’s age and the amount of use that it has had, it has one small bug that does not affect the playback of audio or video;  a very few times per week (2-3 with heavy use), when hitting the ‘Open/Close’ button, the process would start but the locking door on the tray would open part way but not complete and the tray would not begin to come out.  This is not a jam of the tray, it is a minor bug with the shuttle-door mechanism.  One simply hits the Open/Close button on transport or remote control again to reverse this and then retry the operation; it always works the 2nd time.  The transport works 100% and reads everything it is supposed to, it has just developed this annoyed issue. I have rated the unit 7.5/10 because of this an age.  This bug is less than 6 months old;  Esoteric states that an entire transport mechanism ($2800) is needed but frankly I did not find this to be justified (for me) as this is a minor inconvenience and not worth that expense as the unit functions 100% for audio and video playback. The price of the unit factored into the ad price reflects this.

The units are all as shipped by Esoteric, setup for 120v, US Power; they can be used with step-down transformers in Japan, Europe and South America.

Buyer is responsible for verifying power config and suitability for your local power configuration. Esoteric can assist if the units are to be converted.

All accessories included by Esoteric at time of shipment will be included. At the time of order, Esoteric did not include paper manuals in all these units due to the fact the Japan-English manuals were not yet available. If I still have the PDF files on my laptop, I will send them to any interested buyer but you can also find them on the web.

These boxes (particularly the P-03U and D-03) are large and heavy and all are the original Esoteric “triple-box” shipping setups with heavy duty cradles, etc….They are in great shape for their age and the fact I’ve moved several times over the years but gave them the absolute best care possible and store them in a dry, clean and safe location at all other times.. I’ll supply exact measurements, weights and calc’ed dimensional weights via email/offer email to any serious buyer. Shipping costs to be calculated at time of offer acceptance and sale.  I will ship with any non-postal carrier the buyer chooses but please understand the BUYER will pay all shipping costs.  If you want the units insured please specify that at time of order; you will have to pay appropriate shipping fee uplift.  

If you have a UPS, FedEx or DHL account and wish to handle the shipping arrangements from your side, I will gladly work with you;  all that will be needed is for you to setup the shipments and send me shipping labels with tracking numbers electronically. 

I will ship internationally using the most sensible option (price, time, dependability, etc…) but like US domestic, buyer is to pay all shipping fees and will also be responsible for paying Customs/Import taxes and duties. 

I prefer PAYPAL, Buyer to include Paypal fees for the units + shipping costs in the the overall payment.  I will consider bank wire transfer for buyers with 100% positive and well-established feedback but would still prefer Paypal.
