Nearly new condition Roskan Nima tonearm ordered from Needledoctor in February 2014.  This tonearm was received in March and was used with an Origin Live armboard on a Linn LP12 for a tonearm "bake off" with a Linn Akito 2 and a Graham 1.5T.  I’m keeping only one tonearm (the Graham) and selling the other two.
You can buy this tonearm for $1000 at needledoctor, buy the armboard from origin live for $50, wait two (or more) weeks to get both shipped and through customs and then modify the armboard to actually fit properly (with a reciprocating saw or holesaw), or you can buy this nearly new one with slightly modified LP12 armboard for $925 and be playing records in a few days.  After having experienced the former, I would absolutely chose the latter and save the $125 and several weeks of waiting.

You will find lots of references to the Roksan Nima used on the LP12 on various Linn forums and you’ll find very few for sale used because:

  1. they are somewhat hard to get in the US (problematic distributor logistics from Roskan UK)
  2. they work really well on an LP12 and people that buy them tend to keep them

The Nima is a very clean, simple design that is often compared to the *much* more expensive NAIM ARO unipivot and is very well made.  In comparing the three tonearms I recently evaluated, I found the bass of the Linn Akito 2 to be clean, punchy and substantial, but the midrange and treble were often somewhat harsh on less than perfect recordings.  The Nima was the opposite - Treble and midrange to die for.  Tons of air and detail, but no harshness.  My only complaint is that while the bass was present, it was not tight and well-defined enough for my tastes (which is not surprising for an undamped unipivot).  For Jazz, vocals, classical and a lot of pop and synth music, the Nima would be very hard to beat.  It has a liquid, tube-like quality which is really quite wonderful - It's the only tonearm of the bunch that played track one of Elton John's "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" without a hint of harshness.  The recording is problematic, but this tonearm allowed it to sound almost pleasant.  The Graham gives up a little of the sweetness of the Nima in exchange for more defined bass.  To me, the Graham is a good compromise between the two, but the Nima is a very close second (and actually sounds better on some records).  Not bad when you consider the Graham retails for three times the price.

I’m including a Rega mount LP12 armboard from Origin Live that has been slightly modified because the hole is not in the correct place on the Origin Live armboard to allow for the correct Rega pivot-to-spindle distance of 222.5 mm (it is centered and should be slightly offset).  If you have an LP12, just use the same armboard screws and you have everything you need to mount this tonearm.  If you don’t have an LP12, you won’t use the armboard.  When mounting the tonearm, you’ll need to ensure that the column is moved outward in the mounting hole as far away from the pivot as possible (see elongated armboard hole in picture) and your overhang will be correct.
