McIntosh MC2205 AMPLIFIER-ALL ORIGINAL AND ONE OF THE FINER OFFERED ON AUDIOGON!
This McIntosh MC2205 was purchased by me in 1988 from the original owner, and has been tested several times by the legendary Dave O'Brien who managed and ran the McIntosh Clinic program for nearly 30 years. At the time, the output power was tested at 290 watts/channel! This amplifier is in extremely fine condition and sounds as good today as it did 30 years ago. When I originally acquired it, there was some separation in the front glass panel, so a NEW panel was purchased from McIntosh in July 1989 (see photo of receipt). After 26 years, that panel was finally installed a few days ago in preparation for this listing!
As can be seen from the photographs, the unit is in extraordinary condition with only a few minor spots of oxidation on the rear of the chassis and heat sink frame. There are some sellers who "refurbish" units by taking them apart, and replacing certain components even if the amplifier was working properly. If you have an amplifier such as this one, working perfectly (all control pots and relay contacts were cleaned and checked for proper operation), such a disassembly and replacement procedure can actually produce negative results! McIntosh went to great pains to choose high quality components and MATCH them, and there is no guarantee that this will occur when components are replaced!
I have the clinic test results, an original Service Manual as well as an extra copy, and a copy of an original Owners Manual. In order to ship the unit safely, a special box sold by McIntosh for $70, will be used to transport the amplifier. This will be part of the shipping price. A local pickup would of course preclude any shipping charges at all.
Feel free to contact me, Dr. Martin A. Folb, if you have any questions at 323-934-5826. As always, "ALL PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO POLITE DISCUSSION"!
Questions for the seller |
---|
Hello. I am interested in this amp, but I am concerned about shipping. It is a heavy amp and I have had disastrous experiences recently, both buying and selling. Will your Mc carton be safe enough?
Thank you. Hi, this is Dr. Martin Folb. Thanks for your inquiry. McIntosh makes these triple wall boxes specifically to ship these amplifiers, and I believe they even have wooden mounting platforms to attach the amplifiers so they will not move around. I have used one of these in the past, and it worked beautifully. Where are you located? Please feel free to call me if you have any questions at 323-934-5826. Another possibility is to remove the glass front panel and pack it separately, but you would have to feel comfortable re-assembling it. I think by using the Mc box and then possibly even putting that in another box surrounded by bubble wrap, it would be fine. Remember, these cartons are what McIntosh uses to ship these units when they are new! |
