I have for sale a vintage Linn LK1 preamplifier and LK280 power amplifier. This set have been tested and are in excellent working condition. Both channels are clean and clear with no hum, buzz, noise, or distortion. All display/function LEDs on the LK1 preamp are working correctly and so is the power LED (green) on the LK280. I treated the sockets on both units with Caig DeOxit D5 cleaner and added new stick on feet.

I have been using this set in my main system with excellent results. Sound quality is exceptional this is iconic British Flat Earth Hi-Fi. As good or better than early Naim, Quad, or Exposure gear from the same era.

First and foremost this early Linn set uses XLR connectors for the amplifier and preamplifier inputs except for tape 1 and tape 2. These are NOT BALANCED connections. Using XLR connectors with other brands of audio gear that are wired for balanced operation can lead to serious damage so beware when purchasing these pieces and trying to integrate them with other brands of equipment. Cable choice and proper wiring are VERY IMPORTANT. The amplifier outputs on the LK1 and amplifier inputs on the LK280 use XLR plugs but they are wired in single ended fashion.

All internal components are clean with no burned or cracked resistors, transistors, etc. on both the preamp and amplifier. The preamp is serial number 107134, which has service/QC stickers by Linn in both June and July of 1988. This LK1 has the later four (x4) Dubilier 4700 MFD capacitors. The LK280 is serial number 206878 and also has service/QC stickers from 1988. The amplifier boards are PCB020L1 revision dated 08-01-88.

The LK1 is definitely a very quirky British product. The implementation of the remote function is unconventional by later standards and confusing until you get used to it. This was the world’s first remote controlled preamp that did not compromise audio quality. IMO vinyl playback is as good or very close to the later Karin digging down deep and exposing your records for all they are worth.

Included is the factory remote control handset, which is also in excellent condition with no cracks or broken pieces. The original LK1 LK2 owner manual (LK 280 operation same as LK2) and all the proper necessary cables.

INCLUDED CABLE COMPLIMENT:

Three (3) RCA/XLR cables for tuner, CD, or cable box source. This cable can also be used from the preamplifier outputs into a conventional RCA single ended power amplifier. Two (2) of the cables are generic versions one (1) set is a premuim Linn black interconnect.

One (1) pair XLR/XLR cables to connect the LK1 amplifier outputs to the LK280 amplifier inputs. DO NOT USE THESE CABLES WITH OTHER BRANDS OF GEAR THAT USE XLR CONNECTIONS!

2 detachable IEC AC power cords.

I do not have the 4 RCA/5 pin cables for utilizing tape decks for both playback and record.

Cosmetic condition is exceptional on this pair. They are physically clean with no dirt or nicotine contamination. Faceplates, rear panels, and top covers are well above average with virtually no dents, no dings, and no scratches. All graphics and lettering are completely intact easily IMO much closer to 9/10 shape. A great opportunity to acquire this collectable iconic Hi-Fi set together.
