You're looking at a very gently used First Watt F3 Power JFET amplifier for sale by the original owner. I purchased this amp directly from Reno Hi-Fi around Jan, 2013. It's still under the 3 years factory warranty. The F3 is no longer in production. It's a rare opportunity to obtain a great sounding class-A amplifier made by Nelson Pass himself!
The unit is in mint condition, I could not find any imperfection upon close inspection. I rate it to 8/10 just to be conservative. I'm only selling it because I upgraded to much more expensive First Watt SIT-1 mono-blocks.
I owned Pass Labs Aleph 3 which is a classic/benchmark for single-ended class-A power amplifier. I sold the Aleph 3 after I compared it with the F3. The F3 is even more pure and natural sounding than Aleph 3. It offers a magical mid-range similar to tube amp, but without the hassle (I've a pair of Cary 300B mono-blocks which I put aside after I acquired First Watt amp). It was the only Power JFET amplifier in the world when it first came out.
I used the F3 in my second system. I obtained great result with the Merlin VSM speakers. The F3 drove the Merlin to high volume without strain, a quality 15 watts goes a long way! Below is the link to the 6moon review:

Questions for the seller |
---|
What kind of speakers will this drive ok. I have a old pair of B&W Matrix 2 s2. 89db (which I love to this day)
Is this amp adequate? My Merlin VSM is also 89dB, the F3 drives it to high volume without any problem. But it's really hard to say, as it also depends the impedance curve of the speakers (as long as it relative flat and does not dip too low). Thanks! |
