Bel Canto Design REF500M Two 500 watt Monoblocks

This is a pair of monoblocks which are about three years old; after owning over a dozen different amps, these are the amps that stopped the search. They reveal layers of music on songs I have listened to for years. They are very liquid, with excellent bass control, and work well with all but the most demanding of speakers. These are an excellent set of monoblocks. For $2,500, there is nothing even close. These amps with Joseph Audio speakers have won best of show on at least two occasions. I first heard them with TAD speakers at RMAF. Blew me away, but of course the $40K speakers helped. Read some of the reviews: Do not be deceived by the REF500Ms' conservative size and weight, or by the trite and obsolete urban legends surrounding class D amplification, which are barely kept alive by a shrinking hyper-nostalgic crowd. There is not a trace of 'digititis' ever to be detected in their great performance. Give the Bel Canto REF500Ms a long audition: you will be amazed by their surprising authority, seduced by their agility, and will fall in love with their superior musicality. It isn’t enough to describe sound as hard, soft, mellow, strident, glaring, smooth, masked, irritable, appealing, lush, bright, dark etc., etc . . . What is important to know is how things sound, that is the amplifiers (in this instant) — and how it makes things/music sound. Well, these monoblocks sound not only good, they also provide a fine listening experience when one considers musical elements such as detail, dynamics, sound staging and harmonics. I suggest the use of a good preamplifier and source component as well as premium interconnects and speaker cables so as to make the most of the Ref 500M’s capabilities. With a good system combination, these amplifiers provide more musical entertainment than much higher priced components I have heard. The price is right, the performance is excellent and the entertainment value is off the chart. Great job Bel Canto.
