UP FOR SALE IS A LEGENDARY ADCOM GFA-5802 IN NEAR MINT CONDITION.

I'm the second owner of this amplifier. I purchased it from a gentleman in Massachusetts roughly eight years ago.

Most recently I've used it to drive a pair of Paradigm Studio 20's but I have also used it, along with a second Adcom 5802, to Bi-Amp a pair of Aerial Acoustic LR5's. The Studio 20's are fairly efficient and sound fantastic with the 300+ watts and loads of dynamic headroom. The LR5's are not efficient and demand the kind of high current power of a solid state powerhouse. Needless to say they too sounded fantastic!

From what I understand this Nelson Pass designed 5802 was engineered to operate in Class "A" output longer than typical amps of the time. It pumps out a respectful 300W RMS into an 8 Ohm load at 0.18% THD. Things get even more interesting into 4 Ohms, a whopping 450W RMS at 0.18% THD.

You would've been hard pressed to find this much clean power at this price when it was introduced or today!

Nelson Pass also designed it to drive speakers with unusually low impedence such as electrostatic panels. There's no doubt about it, the 5802 runs hot, especially when driving at elevated volumes. Adequate ventilation is essential.

These amps were Adcom's flagship model at the time. They sold for roughly $2000 at the time. Substantially more in todays dollar but none the less they offered great value. The amp consistently gets rave reviews even til this day. I believe Adcom discontinued production of the GFA-5802 in 2007.

This particular 5802 is in excellent condition. A very minor scratch which had been filled in with black sharpie many years ago is barely visible on the top of the front plate (see photos). Other than that single scratch there is no damage, no scratches, no bent heat sink fins, no dead channels, no broken terminals etc...

As far as I'm aware the amp has never been serviced but then again I'm the second owner and can't say for sure. At one time I removed the access cover to inspect the boards but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I remember taking the opportunity to remove the dust that had built up on the boards. There's one massive Toroidal Power supply and a bank of at least four large power Caps. The unit comes with the factory supplied power cord which is roughly 8ft in length. Sonically the unit sounds fantastic. It offers what I would consider a sonically neutral sound, plenty of low end punch, articulate and able to transition rapidly and recover from intense low end passages. Honestly I'd rather not get rid of it but I have too much shit lying around!

The amp has already been packed for delivery. I sell a fair amount of stuff on eBay and know first hand what it's like to order something heavy and expensive only to have it show up damaged.  I have gone to extreme length to protect this amp. First, the amp weighs about 55lbs. I used at least $25 in shipping supplies to pack this one. Initially wrapped in poly wrap. Then 3/4" thick closed cell foam surrounds all sides with overlap on the heatsinks, wrapped in poly again and finally bubble wrap. Then I put it into a single wall corrugated box and sealed it up. I took another box, slightly larger but double walled (expensive) and placed the smaller box inside of it with sealed air bags to fill the voids. Then I taped the shit out of it.

I'm not going to guarantee that it arrives undamaged but if it does it would've had to have been done on purpose. The final box weights 65lbs and measures 20 x 20 x 20.

Delivery will be via FedEx ground, no exceptions. The amp is located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Local pickup is available if you happen to be nearby. If not, I'll need upwards of five (5) days from payment or a cleared check to drop it off at FedEx.

If you decide to pay by check I will wait for the check to clear before delivering. If you decide to use PayPal, which I prefer, You must add 2% to the final value. If you're an overseas buyer you must add 3% to the final value. If you like to talk about anything you can call and leave a message. I'll return your call as soon as possible.
