This beautiful receiver is solidly designed and was built in Japan in 1978. It is a superb sounding receiver. It is a monster; offering 120 watts RMS/channel! It is highly regarded and is often referred to as "one of the best sounding receivers Luxman ever built". The tuner section is amazing as is the phono stage. It hales from the Golden age of Silver Face Stereo equipment . It is built like a tank. The unit is in perfect working condition it does have a few cosmetic blemishes. Technically I'd rate it a 9 just because of it's age but it was cleaned, lubed and certified ready for duty by Dr. Dan - a well known vintage stereo technician in Denver. Cosmetically, I'd give it a 7 due to it's age and several small but noticeable dings. I have tried my best to share them in the photos..... The rosewood veneer has kept it's beauty, but there is a chip in the veneer on the back corner that may bug some. It sits far enough back in my cabinet, that I forgot it was there until I pulled it out to take these pictures. There are several small abrasions on the face plate as well . The sound signature is very full with the warmness that is indicative of the Luxman line from this time period. Everything on it functions as it should, including all the lights and LEDs. The R-1120A is the last version of the earlier released R-1120: With this "A" version - out went the discrete output transistors, the DIN tape connector, the third speaker terminals for electrostatic speakers, the meshed grill protection on the back heatsinks and the visible output transistors....in came a pre/main loop, NEC EBT 200MHz fT drivers, NEC 60MHz hi-fT output transistors and, a Dolby FM switch and its (optional) circuit board. It sports a Realtime DC Processed circuit, being a 1978 Luxman, the R-1120A has constant voltage pre-driver circuits. The phono section boasts an MC stage with parallel FET P and N complementary circuit and source follower output circuit with low gate current leakage. The RIAA eq section uses low amounts of NFb with open loop gain following the RIAA curve, therefore an equal amount of NFb throughout the entire audible range. The 4-gang Dual Gate MOS-Fet FM section is operated by Luxman's CLL tuning system (Closed Loop Locked : it extends locking control to all elements involved - local oscillator, front-end, IF and detector) and the AccuTouch system which locks everything down one second after the tuning knob has been left alone. It has two rows of flashy LEDs and it has the optional Dolby FM board (DUA1070) which few people actually ordered, got or even knew it existed...
