For sale is a McIntosh MX-135 surround sound processor.

This processor has always been stored behind cabinet doors or in original packing. Cosmetically I'd give it a 9/10 only because its not right off the factory bench. But the glass is flawless and the powder coating and chrome have no scratches.

HOWEVER.....

The Trim, Trim Level and Zone B KNOBS are not functioning properly. But these functions do work fine with the REMOTE control. Essentially, when you turn them they do not advance the selection in sequential order. This is because the mechanism that converts the knob twist into an electrical signal has degraded overtime. This is a known issue that affects many McIntosh units. I only recently discovered this behavior affects my MX-135 because I have always used it with a custom remote control interface.

The Volume, Surround, and Zone A knobs are working fine, but will probably suffer the same fate over time.

Still, this is a terrific unit with a top notch processor. I used this primarily as a home theater processor, but the 2-Channel performance is fantastic! It contains the same guts as a C-45 pre amp and when its PURE STEREO mode, its basically a C45. If you're a 2-channel purist looking for a surround processor, you won't be disappointed.

I have given this unit a 7/10 to account for the 3 knobs that aren't functioning properly because the knobs are never used 99% of the time anyway. The rest of the unit is cosmetically in top shape.

I also have:

3 pair Nordost 1M Baldur XLRs selling for $150/pair
1 pair Nordost 2M Blue Heaven Bi-Wire speaker cables selling for $300
1 single Nordost 1.5M Blue Heaven Bi-wire speaker cable selling for $100 - used for center channel.

Contact me if you are interested in bundling these cables with this unit and we can add them to the final cost of this sale.

Questions for the seller
is unit still for sale?
Yes it is.
hello Bluefin, was wondering if you had any idea what it would cost to get the unit repaired?glockman 108@[filtered][filtered]
Apologies for the delayed response. I don't have a precise estimate in writing but when I called about it several months ago a Macintosh repair tech said it could be around $900 and they would do all the knobs on the unit at once because eventually they will all go out. He discouraged fixing the knobs if it used primarily with a remote, but to each his own. Unfortunately that technician (house of music, San Francisco) has since retired. The remote function works fine.
