THIS AUCTION IS OPEN TO BIDDERS IN THE US AND CANADA.

IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE US OR CANADA DO NT BID.

We’re Stereo Exchange, located in New York City. We’ve been in business since the 1970s and are a major high-end dealer. We have all the current top brands including McIntosh, B&W, and Totem on display in our huge showroom.

This pair of Magnepan MG 3.7 speakers with light cloth with wood trim was recently traded in. They are used, but in very nice shape with no blemishes of any significance that I could find on them.

We have the box and packing to ship them in, too, including the ribbon “protector” sheets, which is important.

  • We also have a pair of OPTIONAL "fancy" stands The stands are MYE stands. The fellow that builds them is Grant Vandermye, hence the Mye name. These stands that are shown in the photo. They give the speaker great support for the best bass.

  • They are NOT included, but the winner of the auction can buy them for an additional $250/pr plus shipping.

If you opt to NOT buy them, the speakers come with the “standard” Magnepan legs, anyway.

I briefly tested them and they sound SUPER! They are very detailed and three-dimensional in soundstage; these are typical Magnepan traits. They do have better bass than other Magnepans I have heard…quite deep and even quite dynamic and “punchy”.

They are planar magnetic, with a ribbon driver for high frequencies.

A ribbon uses a flat foil to produce high frequencies. Since there is no cone or panel to move, it is about as direct a sound reproducer as exists. It is also very narrow, so the high frequency response is extremely wide for a HUGE listening area instead of just one sweet spot, which is in contrast to many electrostatic speakers.

These are also easy to drive, without the crazy capacitive load or super low impedance at high frequencies that can cause problems with some amps, unlike many electrostatics.

Being a large model, they also have plenty of bass and power handling without the need for a subwoofer.

If you want even more bass, you could add a sub and only have it work below 40Hz, so it will just come into play for those FEW notes that these Maggies can’t produce.

The long ribbon tweeter acts as a line source. That means that you get utterly consistent highs from the bottom to the top of the ribbon. The sound stays the same whether you stand or sit, in other words (unless you are VERY tall!

More importantly, though, line sources cut off very abruptly above and below their ends. In this case that means that there will be very little high frequency output bouncing off your floor and ceiling. This means more consistent sound in varying rooms.

In highly reflective rooms, this means you can still get a good image and clear sound. You might still get reflections off the side walls, but floor and ceiling reflections will be GREATLY reduced, and that’s a good thing for imaging.

They are VERY pretty, in off-white cloth with light wood strips. This makes them much less imposing.

I can find no imperfections to report, either visually or sonically. The previous owner knew he would trade up someday so he took very good care of these speakers.

They are 4-Ohm, so they will extract more power from most amps.

They’re not a hard load for your amp to drive. They are also not high in capacitance, unlike some electrostatic alternatives, which often have super- low impedance at certain frequencies.

The retail price on a new pair of these was about $5500/pair.

  • We have set the RESERVE at $2488.00/pair.

That includes the standard Magnepan feet, rear panel jumpers, resistors, boxes, and packing with the owner’s manual copy.

If you want the “fancy” stands they are an additional $250/pr plus shipping.

Questions for the seller
HI IF YOU WANT TO SELL THE STANDS ONLY I WILL TAKE THEM FOR 250 PLUS SHIPPING THANKS TOM
Thanks for the offer but I MUST let the buyer of the speakers have first crack at them. Some bidders may not want the speakers UNLESS they can buy the stands. I will save your email.
I will pay 325.00 plus ship for the stands...... Let me know
We need to wait until the end of the auction since the winner of the speakers gets first crack at the stands. Thank you.
Regarding shipping, when these ship from the factory they have another layer of cardboard over the box and three strips of nylon banding around the whole package. Can you pack them like that?
We went a bit further than that. We have placed long corner braces of very heavy cardboard (like masonite in strength) down every seem of the box (four long sides -the front and rear and two short sides front and rear) and then put one strap down the length and three straps across the box to hold it all firmly in place. We are packing fanatics.
