A Classic! Designed by John Curl. I bought this brand new, in 1977 I believe, the first year of production but it could be from 1978. This is marked as "JC-1" and reads "Cartridge Preamplifier". I am quite sure this is meant to be used for Moving Coil cartridges but perhaps your research can confirm this before you bid. This makes sense to me as I stopped using this wonderful unit when my two turntables each had Moving Magnet cartridges installed years ago. This is the DC version which is battery powered. The manual is either hidden to me or long-gone as is the original carton but it has been 35+ years!
Full disclosure: I stupidly left the D cell batteries in this unit and had some battery leakage which I cleaned up as best I could. As a result the contacts were not working properly. I recently had the terminals cleaned by an electronic repair expert who also tested the JC-1 in his shop with his turntable and he assured me it was operating properly. The red "BATT. TEST" light illuminates when the test switch is toggled.
There is a scratch on the bottom but the unit, overall, looks decent from the outside. The upper cover bottom (inside) and the lower bottom has a whitish look that I can only attribute to oxidation over the years. I can't image it affecting the sonic qualities of the JC-1.
I am selling this on an AS-IS basis. There are no returns for any reason. I can only accept PayPal. Good luck with your bids. I am open to questions but may not be able to answer technical ones. Thanks!
