State of the art tubed balanced headphone amp. This has all the upgrades provided by Woo Audio. See www.wooaudio.com. The upgraded tubes are Shuguang Treasure 6CA7 matched quads, while they currently supply Psvanc E34PH's. The rectifier tube upgrade (for single ended input) is Haltron 5AR4 matched quads, while they currently supply Mullards. All the other upgrades are the same as the current units. (The basic tubes are included, as well as the upgraded ones.)

Included is the balanced interconnect between the power supply and the control unit, and a great 2 meter power cord-- both originally supplied by Woo.

The amp was originally designed to mate with the Stax-009 electrostatic Earspeaker, and that's how I have used it. It actually has outputs for two 009's. Woo can configure the unit for some other earphones, if desired.

I have all the original boxes and materials. The units have no functional or cosmetic flaws.

I have listed the earphones separately. As long as I have the earphones you can hear the ensemble here in the NYC area. If you are interested in both units, contact me.

Questions for the seller
Larry, What was the verdict on the system? The Blue Hawaii SE gets good press as well. Familiar with the Stax phones. Selling due to little use or not satisfied? Have been looking at these systems for some time, but tough to find to listen to locally. Any feedback would be appreciated. Buck
Hello again Mike Glad to give you my thoughts and experience. It took me some time to get the Woo/Stax system optimized. A main factor was finally getting the super balanced interconnect. I also found the "sweet setting" in terms of the relative volume on the preamp and the volume on the Woo amp. This thing is so sensitive that any slightest "noise" will be heard. [I mostly listen to vinyl, and have a Klyne phono amp and preamp. Around that time I also got a pair of Merrill Veritas amps that are sensational. They replaced an old ARC tube amp. My speakers are Quad 63's, with replaced panels. And I use a modest sub-woofer. I then had the luxury of two different types of experience, spending days with the speakers, and days with the phones. Each had its special qualities. The speakers, with the new amps, became brilliantly dynamic, and listening was thrilling. The earphones provided a different experience, more beautifully "inner" experience that allowed me to sink into the private experience of the music itself. I mostly listen to classical and jazz. With some show-off pieces that are not the kind of music I most love, I would think the speakers were so dynamic that the phones couldn't keep up, but then when I switched to the phones I was amazed. For example the bass would be fully there. I think basically I was interested in the differences between headphone listening and speaker listening and felt I was getting the best of both. I was also surprised that my relatively modest size room must have good qualities because there wasn't a noticeable room distortion when I switched from the phones to the speakers. When I really want to get into music and not just sound, I often listed to old mono performances because they are just great performances. I have to say that listening to many mono discs with the earphones was a revelation. I decided to sell the amp/speakers only because I was in need of some extra funds. I regret not having them.
Hi, Along with the upgraded tubes, did you do the cap upgrades? Assume phones sold? Thanks
Hello Mike and thanks for your interest. Yes, the caps upgrade was included. That alone cost me $1660. And yes, I did sell the phones, so sadly the amp sits here all by itself. Fortunately I still have the speakers to listen to. Yours, Larry
