Vapor Audio Custom Monitor A Unique Speaker for Unusual Application

This monitor was custom designed and built for a customer who wanted the highest fidelity possible when placed on built in bookshelves. The way we approached the problem was unique.

First, we must start with the best possible drivers. The RAAL ribbon tweeter and Accuton midrange driver are without peer, and the side-firing 8" subwoofer is one used by many other manufacturers in much more expensive speakers. Together they make a very high end package and blend seamlessly together.

The cabinet is made from cross-sectional slices of 13-layer void-free Baltic Birch Plywood. That results in incredible stiffness and resistance to cabinet resonances. It also lets us shape the internal chamber layout ideally for the driver configuration. The Accuton midrange is in a Tapering Transmission Line that greatly reduces it's backwave reflections. And the cabinet finish is 30+ layers of gloss, all buffed out to perfection.

On back is a Hypex plate amplifier which powers both left and right side woofer. The front facing drivers, midrange and tweeter, run off a passive crossover network. That means they are hooked up traditionally to your amp or integrated. But the woofer takes a RCA input from a pre/integrated output, and runs off the integrated amplifer of 100wpc. This amp also has full computer controlled DSP capability, so bass can be tuned infinitely to suit your application.

When placed near wall, or on a desk, bass issues are unpredictable. The near boundaries create an uneven bass response, and the power of the built in DSP is the only way to properly compensate for these.

End result of these speakers, they are the ultimate design for a built in bookshelf, or also as a desktop monitor. In either case, they would be incredible. They can also be used free-standing, and in such a role would perform to an incredibly high level as well.
