The “Truth Machines” - Beautiful & Rare Factory Matched Pair of Audiophile Tyler Acoustics TAYLO Bi-Wire / Bi-Amp Reference Monitor Speakers with ScanSpeak Revelator Tweeters and SEAS Millenium Magnesium Woofers. $2,450 MSRP – Made in the USA! Please note that this listing is for the TAYLO speakers only! The speakers are being sold without the beautiful Tyler Acoustic Model 1 stands that are depicted in the photos. These stands are being sold in a separate listing. The story of Tyler Acoustics is an American small business success story. Ty Lashbrook founded Tyler Acoustics (named after his son) in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1998 and has hand built a small armada of fantastically designed and lovingly hand crafted speakers over the past 15 years. While all of Tyler Acoustics speakers are expensive (the Highland model sells for $11,500), Tyler Acoustics speakers are considered a very high value despite the price. Part of the reason is that Ty sells them to you factory direct – there is no middle man. But the other part – the important part – is the quality of parts and the overall fantastic build quality of the cabinets. Many manufacturers will sell a very fancy looking $2,500 speaker system that when added up amounts to just $300 worth of drivers and crossover components. Not Tyler Acoustics – Ty puts the money where it counts – in the drivers, the crossover components and the cabinets. Here is an excerpt of a great 1999 Soundstage Review by John Portis that goes into great detail why these are such amazing speakers: “ Ty doesn’t skimp on the parts he uses in this $2450-per-pair monitor. He starts with the widely respected Scan-Speak Revelator tweeter. It’s an expensive 1" textile dome with a 5" flanged fascia. Then he uses a SEAS 6 1/2" magnesium-coned midrange/woofer. If you haven’t noticed this sharp-looking cone with its solid-copper phase plug, you haven’t been paying attention. But you can find it or its smaller 5" sibling cropping up in some very pricey offerings. But the goodies don’t end there. How about internal wiring by DH Labs (T-14), Hovland capacitors (only used in line with the tweeters), Goertz Alpha-Core inductors (in the woofer’s path) and silver solder throughout? And if these weren’t enough, how about rejecting the usual 3/4" MDF and stepping up to MDF a full 1 1/2" thick? Give these babies the knuckle-rap test if you want, but tread lightly; they have the feel of a cinder block. Now you know how a 9"W x 10"D x 18"H monitor can tip the scales at 38 pounds. “ The drivers are extraordinary, and are quite expensive in their own right. Just go to the Madisound web site and you’ll see that it would cost more than $930 just to buy the two tweeters and two woofers: • 1″ ScanSpeak Revelator D2905 / 9900 tweeter retails for $470 for the pair • 7″ SEAS Millennium W18E-001 magnesium cone woofer retails for $466 for the pair. This is the same woofer found in the $7,000 a pair Joseph Audio Pulsar speaker system These are top end quality drivers that blend seamlessly with Ty’s extremely well designed and audiophile crossover. If you were going to build yourself a super high end 2-way monitor, this is how you would want to built it for yourself. With these Taylo Reference Monitor speakers, there is no skimping on any aspect of the build. These speakers sound awesome! They literally are the “Truth Machines” that will relay what ever quality you have built into your audio system, and also ruthlessly expose the weak links. The factory original matched drivers and crossovers combine to deliver an incredible soundstage, and a sonic presentation that is both musical and detailed – a difficult combination to achieve. Cosmetically the drivers are flawless – there are no marks on any of them. The cabinets are in great shape with no major blemishes, but they are not perfect. There are a few very light scuffs and scratches, but no mushed corners, no dinged edges, no water spots, no corrosion, nor other major blemishes. One of the sides shows a sun fade pattern that will dissipate with time. Each cabinet has a few very tiny dark marks (one is right next to the tweeter flange) that are not blemishes at all but the naturally occurring grain pattern of the real wood veneer. The quality of the wood is exceptional. These cabinets are hand crafted, and you can see some of the artifacts in that the driver holes are not machined CNC perfect, and the very slightly champhered edges show that they are in fact done by hand and have the microscopic irregularities of hand finishing. You have to look very closely to see this, and it in no way detracts from the beauty of the cabinetry – they are truly gorgeous. Please note that these speakers do not come with grills. These are Bi-Wire / Bi-Amp compatible, and I have included a custom pair of shorting wires if you want to use standard speaker connectors. There is a switch in the back by the terminations which cuts 3 dB off the tweeters if you want to utilize that feature. Please note that you are wasting your investment in these speakers unless you power them with an equally superb amplifier. At 88 Ohms sensitivity, these need a powerful amplifier with excellent dynamics and generous headroom to open them up and bring out best in these speakers. I used quite a few amp combinations and for the most part everything that I have paired the Taylo’s with has sounded wonderful, but in general I found my Classe amps to be the perfect match for these incredible speakers. The slightly softened high end finish to the Classe amp sound signature was a perfect pairing to the superb Scan-Speak Revelator tweeter and the result is a breathless smooth and incredibly natural voicing quality.
