Beautiful Factory Matched Set (Sequential Serial Numbers) Bowers & Wilkins B&W CDM-1 Special Edition Bi-Wire / Bi-Amp Large Bookshelf Speakers in Black Ash Real Wood Finish with Flawless Drivers. Nautilus Tube Loaded Tweeter & Kevlar Mid Bass – MSRP $1,200! Please note that B&W manufactured three versions of these CDM 1 speakers - the CDM-1, the CDM-1 NT, and these CDM-1 SE (Special Edition). The Bowers and Wilkins (B&W) speaker line is perhaps the most prestigious and successful loudspeaker manufacturing company in history. The Nautilus is the top of the line for B&W, but the CDM Model Line is far and away the better sonic bliss for the buck from B&W. With the CDM-1 SE, you truly are getting everything that B&W is famous for in terms of signature sound and quality. It has the same wonderful B&W sonic signature, same tweeter as the more expensive B&W speakers, and has the added benefit that the “larger than bookshelf” size gives added bass response than the smaller B&W bookshelf models. If you are looking for the speaker that delivers audiophile sound at an affordable cost, this is the speaker to get – as you move up the B&W product line the improvements that you gain with each incremental increase in expenditure are no longer distinct steps of higher sonic quality, but small nuances. These B&W CDM-1 Special Edition speakers are not just beautiful, these also are first rate performers that have the renowned B&W drivers and exceptional build quality that have made B&W the envy of the audio industry. The CDM-1SE speakers are just slightly smaller than their considerably more expensive and smaller brothers the 805 Nautilus, yet they sound virtually identical with the same B&W sound signature. They sound sublime and are an excellent voice-match to the entire B&W speaker line. These are superb two way speakers that have 6.5” (165mm) Kevlar Mid Bass drivers with bullet phasing plugs and 1” (25mm) Nautilus type tweeters with a tube loading system to absorb non essential energy radiation. The extremely solid cabinets are angled at the top to expose the tweeter. These are front ported speakers so they can be placed on shelves up against the wall without ill effect, unlike rear ported speakers. The flow port has the famous B&W golf-ball type of dimpling that helps eliminate port chuffing noise at high volumes. The drivers all are flawless – both functionally and cosmetically. The visible surfaces of both cabinets are in excellent overall condition as you can see from the photos. The speakers were placed on metal platforms near a window, and over the years the bottoms absorbed a slight bit of condensation and expanded the rear bottom joint. It is not at all immediately apparent, even in the close up shots from the rear. The rear panel of one speaker ever so slightly spreads out as it reaches the bottom. Very subtle, but a blemish nonetheless. Other than that, the cabinets are absolutely gorgeous, with just a few very tiny nicks that are very hard to see. There is normal scuffing and scratching on the bottom surfaces. Note that as you can see in the photos, I do not have the original gold colored bi-wire shorting strips. I will supply a set of custom superior sounding shorting cables with the sale. The grills look like new with no stains, no holes and no broken or missing frame elements. (9.5kg) each unpackaged Very few items in high technology are a safe investment, but these B&W CDM 1 Special Edition speakers are one of the very rare exceptions and have some of the best resale value of any speaker brand or model in the world. While many speaker brands are fortunate to return 20 – 25%% of their original retail price when re-sold as a used item, these B&W CDM-1SE speakers have consistently re-sold for more than 60% of their original purchase price – almost unheard of for consumer speakers. There is a reason for this demand – QUALITY. Quality of manufacture, performance quality, quality control and also the quality and track record of the brand name – B&W. These B&W CDM-1 Special Edition speakers are one of the great values in the B&W product line – you have to spend a lot more to hear just a small incremental difference - as well as being truly beautifully designed audiophile speakers. These speakers sold for between $1,100 and $1,200 (depending on which source that you reference), and used sales for matched sets in pristine condition routinely exceed $725, and average $620 for all sales in any condition. Here is a terrific opportunity to buy a beautiful pair of factory matched, flawlessly functioning and beautiful looking B&W CDM-1 SE speakers that look essentially new from all angles except the back side on one speaker, and have lived in a non-smoking home their entire lives. Payment is via US Post Office Money Order or Cash Upon Delivery. Please note that these are very large and heavy bookshelf speakers, and to pack them without having anything touch the delicate exposed top-mounted tweeters will require forming an air pocket around the tweeters. I have done this successfully before, but it means a larger than normal package – the final shipping cost for them after double boxing will not be cheap. I will be happy to deliver for free if you are very local to me in the San Francisco, Berkeley or Marin County area.
