Typical heavy terminations weigh like lead balloons on any delicate audio signal, creating electrical eddy currents that compromise the integrity of the signal. We have painstakingly auditioned many, many terminations looking for the best balance of low mass and metallurgy. There's only one way to do it. Build a prototype and listen. Sonic engineers widely agree that low capacitance in IC's is a good thing. Any material surrounding the signal raises capacitance. Even our entry level reference cable, the Darwin Silver, has been lab tested with an astounding open circuit capacitance (10 kHz) of 11.70 pF—about one fifth of an $18,000 flagship cable named after a Norse god. High capacitance cables store and release energy in an unscheduled manner, polluting the the signal. We accomplish much of this performance with superior dielectrics, the best being air itself. By floating our conductor with minimal contact with an oversized teflon tube—a superb dielectric—the signal is unfettered—organic, earthy and dynamic. Really big.

SCIENCE: While the art of listening is the most important aspect of the way Darwin Cables are developed, science is critical. Less evolved cable designs are not only veiled because they use heavily coated, less conductive copper wire, they also exhibit a forward nature or brightness, a timing issue caused by skin effect as the high frequencies ride on the outer edge of a ponderously bulky conductor, arriving too soon and causing listener fatigue. Counterintuitively, a conductor of the proper delicate gauge can take advantage of the Maxwell Effect and produce superior, taut, definitive bass.
