This pair of Derecho has been our personal demo pair. It has a few light surface rubs in the finish, overall very good condition. We can refinish the speakers to new condition for additional cost.

The Derecho was created to fill request for a full range floorstander of high sensitivity, resolution, and refinement, but that occupies a smaller footprint in the room. Construction of the cabinet is exceptional. Building off the experience learned in creation of the Cirrus, the Derecho utilizes a CNC cut stacked Birch-Ply construction method only found on much more expensive loudspeakers. This allows us to shape the cabinet internally and externally for ideal performance. Of the many benefits to this type of construction:

- Large front roundover eliminates edge-diffraction, a separate point source of distorted sound that smears imaging cues and tone. Elimination of diffraction leads to greater transparency and accuracy.
- By stacking 2D slices of 13-Layer void free Birch Ply we end up with an incredibly stiff cabinet without resonances. Resonances are much like diffraction, another source of distorted sound, and elimination of these resonances allows a much more open window into the recording without drawback other than the vast time/expense required to build cabinets this way.
- The internal shape of the cabinet is easily manipulated with the stacked ply construction method as well. That allows us to create an internal shape designed through FEA (Finite Element Analysis) that greatly reduces reflections of the drivers backwave inside the cabinet. This shape also eliminates internal standing waves, further improving transparency and sense of openness.
- Internal walls are filled with an engineered silica media to prevent sound transmission through the walls, again something that wouldn't be possible to recreate with a typical box construction.

As you can see, we take cabinet design and execution very seriously at Vapor Audio. No one aspect of our designs makes or breaks the final result, but instead of cumulative effect of small improvements in every possible spot lead exceptional results.

The drivers used were carefully chosen for the desired end result. To achieve high sensitivity the designer must be aware of and balance the compromises. With the Derecho, to reach a 93db sensitivity (a real 93db, not exaggerated) we chose to give up the very bottom octave of 20-40hz, but from 40hz up the Derecho delivers a powerful and dynamic result. They can be used effectively with as little as 9 watts, from a 300B SET for instance. But utilizing cutting edge drivers with excellent power handling and thermal dissipation capabilities, the Derecho can also handle over 200 watts without sense of strain. It all adds up to a speaker of very high resolution and transparency, accurate tone, and one that can be driven by nearly any amplifier at any desired volume level. The Derecho is a unique offering in the World of Hi-Fi, and sensibly priced.
