A good satellite speaker system has many advantages over a huge floor standing speaker. However, a powered sub-woofer is not welcomed to the hi-end audio because the sub-woofer doesn’t blend well with monitors. Why? High and mid-frequencies of almost conventional speakers (if not all) washed off with the powerful bass from a powered-sub-woofer.
Unlike conventional speakers, vivid and smooth sound of Mt. Rainier (MR) blends perfect with any powered sub. Mid and high frequencies stand out on the thick and powerful low bass.
Many woofers on a huge floor standing speaker cover only little low bass note. They still have only one tweeter. High and mid range are almost same as any bookshelf speaker. For 40-27k hz, Mt. Rainier is better than any speaker.
Many woofers on a huge speaker sound still inferior to any single good powered sub-woofer. 80~90% of whole speaker cabinet is just for under 100hz. Those woofers on floor standing speaker take all the juice from your fine amplifier and none for mid and high frequencies.
The larger woofer on speaker makes warmer sound. Listening of the warm sound of huge floor standing speaker always is "BORING". More music sounds better without sub-woofers. With satellite speaker system, you have a choice between with sub-woofer or without. The tweeter and mid-range sound better with more power from the amp.
With MRs, the crossover point of the powered sub-woofer is 40~45 hz. The clean and musical sound of MR is intact. Enjoy all the impact of low bass from the powered subs. 2 subs (stereo) are even better. MR is the best satellite sound system in the world and in the history of audio.
Please remember, we don't listen to the music louder because the speaker is bigger. Every music has its perfect volume level for your room. MR is loud enough for my studio (36'w x 44'L x 13'h) with 5 watts 6L6 tube amp.
