This is your chance to own a pair of hi-fi history. The last version of Sonus Faber reference speakers designed and voiced by Franco Serblin, founder of Sonus Faber. Franco became well known for the way he voiced his Sonus Faber speakers and the Amati Homage Anniversario were one of his greatest achievements.
"The Sonus Faber Amati anniversario sounds simply superb, and is finished to an equally superb standard. Not only did I enjoy the insight into my music the Amati offered during the two months I spent with it, it was also gorgeous to look at. For me, a loudspeaker doesn’t get much better than this." John Atkinson - Stereophile
"The finished product is simply one of the most stunning-looking large loudspeakers ever built by anyone. Upright caskets, refrigerators on spikes, Robbie the Robot—all those big speakers look silly next to the Amati."
"The Amati is the most effortless-sounding large loudspeaker I’ve ever heard. It was as if my favorite recordings had been performing shackled all these years, and suddenly were free to move unhindered—physically and emotionally."
Michael Fremer - Stereophile
"....... as far as I’m concerned, the Sonus Faber Amati is the finest dynamic loudspeaker in the world."
Home Theatre Review
Design and specs:
Serblin’s goal was to design a high-efficiency, low-compression loudspeaker that would be fast and detailed yet dynamic and full-bodied. The high-compliance, low-compression drivers, custom-built to Sonus Faber’s specs by Scan-Speak, consist of two extra-rigid, lightweight, 8" paper/carbon-fiber cone woofers, with the cone material "hand-thrown" to randomize the fibers (and break up resonances) and individually damped; a high-compliance, 7" multiple-coated paper/carbon-fiber midrange cone with a hyperbolic titanium phase plug (to break up high-frequency beaming); and a 28mm, non-ferrofluid, multiple coated soft-dome tweeter protected by a grate.
the Amati’s cabinet is the sort of wooden construct which will, in 200 years, confuse the hell out of the crew, who will wonder how such craftsmanship manifested itself in a hi-fi product of late 20th century origins. It’s fashioned from 21 sheets of wood of various consistency, joined together by a polymeric glue ’with a high coefficient of viscosity in order to dampen vibration’. Sonus Faber employs this complex technique not just because of its resemblance to the craft of the luthier, but because such construction improves dynamic contrasts.
