One extremely rare pair of Shahinian Contra Bombarde subwoofers serial numbers 54 and 55 of only 57 made. These are in excellent working condition. The drivers were replaced by the original owner with units purchased directly from Shahinian Acoustics.
Per Richard Shahinian: " A twin conical slot loaded sub-woofer, which may be bridged for single channel operation" "The conceptual creation of A. Stewart Hegeman, formerly the bass portion of a loudspeaker, known for 20 years as the Hegeman Pro." "This Shahinian orchestration of Hegeman's manuscript exists for us to enjoy. It is the most meticulous execution of this fabled classic I can imagine with the additional refinements of modern materials and devices. The horn is driven by twin 8" drivers of extreme robust construction, ideally suited for this application. Stiff, bulky but not massive cones, coupled to 2" high power voice coils and extreme large motors provide the transient properties unique to this speaker. Total horn path exceeds 20 feet from throat to mouth. The 8 ohm driver may be bridged externally to produce a single channel 4 ohm device if unusual power is required for a large space. Reminder: One Contra Bombarde in split configuration is acoustic mix stereo, not electric L + R which equals mono."
Recommended: Lower limit: 16 Hz Upper limit 200Hz Power handling 150 wpc, short duration peaks over 750 wpc
Dimensions 35"high 27.5" wide, 18.5" deep fitted with casters Weight 165 pounds each, 330 pounds total plus crates
The picture with a Diapason module on top was taken to give a sense of how large these are. This is the ultimate addition to a pair of Shahinian Diapasons. Coupled with the Diapasons, the Contra Bombardes make for a truly full range system solid down to 16Hz. If you want the effect of a giant pipe organ in your listening room, this is the answer! I will include a like new Marchand crossover specified by Richard Shahinian with the purchase price.
Questions for the seller |
---|
No question; just a comment. You and I may have been among "the few" to have a sequential pair. I sold my pair after refurbishing them with Shahinian's own custom Eminence drivers, and used each as a dedicated L or R. Superb! The fastest subs I've ever owned, and an ideal "mate" to Martin Logan CLS 1A's, driven by Ampzilla and preceded by Audio Control Richter Scale III active Linkwitz Riley crossover with low pass set at 50 HZ. I couldn't afford a Marchand crossover and Dick agreed that just letting the CLS's "die out" on their own accord driven by a pair of monoblock MFA 120's without high pass filter caps was the best way to avoid any phase shift "smear." He was right. The pair was sold to a high end dealer in Seattle who separated them and sold each separately. Good luck to your succeeding owners. They're rare indeed. I had numbers 18 and 19. Hi Roger,
You have good taste in loudspeakers. I've always liked the CLS Martin Logan's. I was never wild about the
hybrid Martin Logan's. The bass never sounded right to me. But the CLS didn't have that problem. I'm
guessing the Contra Bombarde was the perfect sub for those speakers. I've heard of others using
the Contra Bombardes with Beveridge and Acoustsat. What system are you using now.?
Best Regards,
Stan
