The Focal was purchased by me maybe a month ago after an incredible amount if research. If you look at my feedback you will see I just sold my Wilson Sophia 3's so I am very fussy
While not exploring the subterranean bass depth of the Wilsons was very close in transparency, imaging, and treble.
This absolutely elegant two-and-a-half-way floorstanding speakers concentrates all the know-how of Focal. But its refined curves and the strength of its design does not only serve its aesthetic, but the exceptional rigidity of the cabinet and the absence of parallel inner walls are immediately apparent assets. Type: 2 1/2-way bass-reflex floor standing speaker.
Speakers are flawless and list price shown includes a pair of outriggers that frankly, are needed.
The Diamond Black finish is better than any high gloss lacquer from any manufacturer I have owned.

Questions for the seller |
---|
Do the grills have to be on like the reviews say?
Bryan Actually went and tried them again after your question and they might image a little better with grills on. Sorry
|
Also, I love them with Wireworld Equinox or better. You were right I moved them closer to wall, put covers on and lessened toe in. Incredible.
So good in fact probably going to yank the ad. Going to do some serious listening this weekend and decide
Thanks! |
Beautiful, but I was going to suggest, before trading them, that the set up is not exactly right in the pictures. They need the grills on, but tweeter covers OFF. Also, set up should start with speakers facing straight ahead, and toe in gradually until imaging snaps into place with no holes between center and sides. I do appreciate your feedback but need to point out that I am not selling them because I don't like them. As a matter of fact, I love them.
Just have always loved electrostaics but couldn't drive them properly until I acquired one of my favorite amp brands, (Goldmund)
I actually did try them with no toe in but actually prefred them with the small amount of toe in the pictures.
While I do agree that grill covers on imoroves overall sound quality, I prefer a very tight image because of the fact I listen to a lot of female vocals.
Thanks though for your valuable feedback |
I have the same Focals and I agree minimal toe in with the grills on works best. What brand are the out-riggers you are using? They look fantastic with them and I would love a pair. www.soundocity.com
Ask for Paul. Awesome to work with and the outriggers are fabulous. You won't believe how easy it is to adjust |
how far from the rear wall must these speakers be placed? I found they are pretty insensitive. I have them 30" from rear wall and they are fantastic but because of the front port found they work well all the way to within 15" from rear wall. Closer to rear wall more bass |
