EMME Beta Loudspeakers ***Reduced

For sale - a rare find both in ascetic appeal and sound quality … a pair of EMME Beta loudspeakers from Italy, finished in piano black. Cosmetically stunning and 100% functional. Conservatively rated 8/10. Price for sale at $5000 USD. Reasonable offers considered.

The EMME Beta sound is highly transparent and natural sounding. It has good edge on the attack but at the same time, the speaker is not overly bright and never fatiguing. Bass is a delight - smooth, round and tight – even at lower volumes (which is unusual). Percussion and bass (electric and acoustic) is to die for. The mid-range is very open, transparent, natural and almost sweet. The high end blends seamlessly to give an balanced end to end sound. Sound stage is well presented, but not extreme: with good instrument separation and placement both horizontally and depth wise.

I was impressed with the Beta’s versatility. My musical taste ranges quite wide so versatility is an important quality for me. The Beta provided a sound extravaganza on great recordings; but they also sounded enjoyable when playing vintage 1940’s jazz and older opera music. On older recordings, the Beta speakers took on the sound quality of the vintage microphones, presenting itself authentically as an 1930-40 radio broadcast in the mood of the time. I found this quality charming; unlike previous speakers which would present old recordings as shrill and bright.

These are not speakers that demand you only play your audiophile recordings; but when you do you will be smiling from ear to ear from the audio treat.

Reason for selling them. I was fortunate to be able to purchase these speakers to audition them, but my small living room, with near field listening and a 45 watt SET tube amplifier did not do them justice. I loved the sound with my tubes, but I kept thinking I needed more current and more room size to really bring out the best in them. With only 45 watts into 8 ohms, I felt like the speakers were holding back a bit. I also felt that if they had more air around them the sound stage would open up more (more bloom). Mine was neither the room nor the amp for these speakers and I am hesitant to start chasing equipment (and house) upgrades as other financial priorities prevail.

A review I read spoke about matching the Beta with a high current solid state amp. I’m sure that would sound great but I would not hesitate to match them up with a higher powered tube amp as I liked the sound quality I experienced with my tubes… just not enough jump, due to my amp’s low power output.

The Beta are not a large speaker and styled as they are, they fit into any décor. Friends who saw and listened to them loved them for both their beauty and their sound. Very high Wife Approval Factor. These speakers are audio technology presenting themselves as art.

Priced as is, this is an opportunity to enjoy a very high end speaker at a reasonable price. The speakers are disassembled polished and boxed for shipping so demos are not an option.
