It would be hard to think of another relative newcomer to the world stage that has had more of an impact on high end audio than Sonus Faber. Franco Serblin founded Sonus Faber in Italy in 1983 and the company has become a fixture in designing and manufacturing incredibly stylish, elegant and sonically sweet loudspeakers. Now imported into the USA by Sumiko, the name Sonus Faber is derived from Latin and means "handcrafted sound". It is a term that is repeated constantly when talking about their custom drivers, their high quality crossovers and their exquisite hand crafted cabinets. As you might expect, Sonus Faber does not make inexpensive speakers. The mouth watering Sonus Faber Flagship ‘Fenice’ speakers are priced at a mind numbing $160,000! The Domus model line is a much more reasonably priced, and this Concertino Center Domus speaker retailed for ‘just’ $1,295 in 2008.

This speaker is in superb condition. It functions flawlessly, and there are no marks on any of the drivers. Cosmetically it is a very elegant design - the real leather surface wraps around the top, bottom and front and looks fantastic all around. There is only one minor blemish – a finger tip sized wear spot on the leather close to the terminations in back. It is not worn through the leather, but the hide pattern of the leather is interrupted. This is the only real blemish in an otherwise near perfect speaker. In bright light you can see a few microscopic “buff” type scratches in the gloss black finish on the side panels, but in normal room light the gloss panels and leather look incredible. The terminations look like new. The grills also look like new – no stains, no holes, no tufted fabric, and no broken grill frame elements. This Sonus faber Center Domus speaker has been meticulously maintained its entire life and looks visually stunning as you can see from the photos.

Please note that this is a very wide center channel speaker at 24.25" wide and may not fit some locations!

Sonically, this is a fantastic center speaker which works as well for dialogue in Home Theater applications as it does for more demanding surround sound SACD / HDCD musical applications. While I had it because it was voiced and balanced so that it matched my Sonus Faber Concertino Domus speakers, this Center Domus will also match either the Sonus Faber Grand Piano or Concerto models. This is a World Class center channel speaker, very musical, detailed and incredibly nuanced. Note that this is a 4 Ohm speaker and really needs a quality amplifier of 75 watts or more with lots of dynamic headroom to properly make these speakers open up and really sing.
