For sale is the Audio Artistry Beethoven speaker system "Fidelio". These speakers are so special that they have names, not numbers! This is the same Beethoven system that captured Stereophile Magazine’s “Loudspeaker of the Year” recommendation for 1998. The system consists of two panels with their external passive crossovers, two subwoofers, and an active crossover that goes between your pre- and power- amps. Fit ‘N’ Finish is outstanding, with the cabinets finished in Rosewood and black piano lacquer.

Each panel contains a 1” tweeter, 2 x 8” midrange and 2 x 10” woofers; each subwoofer contains 4 x 12” cones. Overall frequency response is 20 Hz – 25 kHz +/- 2.5 dB with sensitivity of 89 dB at 2.83 volts/1 meter. The active crossover allows the subwoofers to be switched off; when this is done, panel response is automatically extended to 40 Hz. Audio Artistry recommends the use of solid state amplifiers, 200 WPC for the panels and at least 50 WPC for the subwoofers. Panel impedance is 5 ohm nominal, 3.3 ohm minimum (100 Hz), while the subwoofers show 13 ohms nominal and 11 ohms minimum. The panel crossovers allow single- , bi- , or tri-wiring. The custom-made jumpers shown in the picture are included with the speakers.

For the most part, wear and tear on the speakers is average – a small ding on a plinth rear corner and a few small pulls in grill fabric (mostly on the rear). There is a chip in the lacquer on the front of one panel, between the woofers. The ding, small enough to be covered by a penny (see photo), is cosmetic only; it affects neither function nor performance of the speaker. Speakers are rated 7/10 for age and the front panel ding. This Beethoven has been kept in a smoke/kid/pet-free dedicated audio room since I bought it in 1999.
