The Concero was created in part by ESS Sabre DAC engineers. There are three models in Concero line. this ad is for the Concero HP only.

CONCERO: 384kS/s, USB DAC, SPDIF DAC, and USB to SPDIF Bridge.

CONCERO HD: HIGH DEFINITION 32bit USB DAC and SPDIF DAC. DSD and DXD (24b/352.8kS/s).

CONCERO HP: HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER from USB or SPDIF. DSD and DXD (24b/352.8kS/s).

CONCERO is a family of 352.8/384kS/S outstanding audio DACs. We have
listened to customers and industry experts who asked us to deliver a
sound signature similar to that of the INVICTA with fewer features and
in a simplified format. CONCERO is that product. It is the Asynchronous
USB Audio 2.0 and Jitter Reduction elements of the INVICTA driving the
latest ESS Sabre DACs. CONCERO uses the 24bit ESS ES9023 Sabre DAC,
CONCERO HD and CONCERO HP both use the 32bit ESS9018-2M Sabre DAC*. In
addition, we have added an S/PDIF input for those configurations that do
not use a USB data source. The CONCERO (except HP version) also allows
USB input to S/PDIF output in a bridge mode. The HD and HP versions
accept PCM and also DSD from USB Audio 2.0 (in 64x or 128x modes, ie
DSD64 and DSD128). The HD version streams DoP data to the S/PDIF output
when in DSD64 mode.

CONCERO is the upgradeable DSP
engine of the INVICTA, including its proven Asynchronous USB Audio 2.0,
Outstanding Jitter Reduction capability and the Proprietary Resonessence
up-conversion filters delivering 176.4kS/s & 192kS/s from your
44.1kS/s & 48kS/s sources. CONCERO supports USB up to 384kS/s.

CONCERO is designed to help you
access Resonessence Audio Engineering capabilities while maintaining all
your existing audio equipment.

CONCERO HD ________________________________________________________________________

CONCERO
HD connects the Resonessence upgradable FPGA based DSP engine to the
new 32bit ESS ES9018-2M Sabre DAC for high performance, high sample-rate
PCM up to DXD rates (352.8kS/s) from the USB Audio 2.0 port. In
addition, it also contains the Resonessence 4x up-sampling filters that
will accept 44.1kS/s and 48kS/s data streams from USB or S/PDIF and
convert them to 176.4kS/s and 192kS/s respectively.

CONCERO HD activates the ES9018-2M’s
internal DSD processing engine to support Direct Stream Digital (DSD64
and DSD128) from the USB Audio 2.0 port using DoP standard version 1.1.
CONCERO HD can operate as a USB to S/PDIF bridge in all modes except the
DSD128 mode (that more would result in an S/PDIF stream data rate that
exceeds the S/PDIF specification. DSD64 however does work, DoP data
packets are send out on the S/PDIF in that mode).

CONCERO HD is designed from the
ground up to deliver on the promise of Direct Stream Digital in addition
to high sample rate PCM. It brings the latest ESS Sabre DAC chips and
the latest standards in audio processing to your existing power
amplifier and loudspeaker configurations.

CONCERO HP ________________________________________________________________________

CONCERO
HP is three things in one: first, it is the Resonessence upgradable
FPGA DSP core with all the proven filters and algorithms of the CONCERO
family; second, it uses the 32bit ES9018-2M Sabre DAC in both PCM and
DSD modes to provide high quality audio; and finally it provides a
state-of-the-art headphone driver capability.

The CONCERO HP delivers digital
music directly from your computer USB or audio S/PDIF source to your
chosen headphones with exceptionally low distortion ( 112dB).

Similarly to all the CONCERO family,
the CONCERO HP enumerates on the PC as a USB Audio 2.0 device (by use
of our freely provided Thesycon USB Audio 2.0 driver), and natively on
the Mac. But in addition, CONCERO HP also enumerates as a Human
Interface Device (HID) which allows its volume control to drive the
volume level in the music player directly.

When internal up-sampling is being
used (taking your 44.1kS/s or 48kS/s to 176.4kS/s and 192kS/s) pressing
the center of the volume control knob cycles through the Resonessence
up-sampling filters for you to optimize your listening experience.

( These last two features mean that
no remote control is necessary with the CONCERO HP, but if you prefer to
use a remote control, CONCERO HP responds to the Apple IR Remote just
like the other CONCERO family members. )

( A configuration utility on both PC
and MAC is provided to configure the CONCERO HP to use S/PDIF as either
an input or as an output to enable S/PDIF bridge mode. This
configuration utility is provided so that the CONCERO HP requires no
remote control to access all the features. You can change the
configuration as often as you like, the configuration you chose is
stored in the CONCERO’s non-volatile memory chip. )
CONCERO HP is designed to be the

only audio device you need to take your library of digital music in
whatever format you choose, to your high quality headphones. Laptop,
CONCERO HP and quality headphones together make an outstanding
audiophile system.

_________________________________________________________________________

Plug CONCERO into an active USB port and CONCERO enumerates as an audio output device. Now you can use
CONCERO with your favorite music player on the MAC or PC, and experience
a new level of audio clarity. CONCERO will optionally up-sample your
digital 44.1kS/s and 48kS/s provided over the USB, into both an analog
output from its internal ESS Sabre DAC’s into your existing audio
pre-amplifier inputs or to your headphones. CONCERO (not the HP version)
is also capable of generating a 24 bit ultra low jitter SPDIF stream
output.
If you prefer to provide your own data at higher than 48kS/s,
all CONCERO models will render it bit-perfect into the DAC (and SPDIF
stream if not HP) while providing exceptional jitter removal.
Plug CONCERO into a power-only USB port (of the type used to charge cell phones or similar), and finding no
active host, CONCERO will configure to accept SPDIF input. Once again
offering to up-sample 44.1kS/s and 48kS/s into high quality 176.4kS/s or
192kS/s, or render it bit-perfect and jitter reduced into to the
internal Sabre DAC for your pre-amplifier inputs or headphones.

CONCERO models respond to the
Apple IR Remote for you to conveniently control the USB host track
selection and play/pause, and on-the-fly select the ideal internal
filter to suite your taste. No glitch or artifact is generated during
filter switching, allowing you to audit the filters and choose the
optimum. Pressing the volume control knob on the HP model also cycles
through the filter selections.

*The CONCERO HD and CONCERO HP do indeed use the 32bit ESS9018-2M
Sabre DAC but the data you send to our DACs is at most a 24bit word.
What then is the reason to mention that the DAC is 32 bits? It is
important, and it sounds better when the DAC is 32 bits, because of the
signal processing the DAC must do can end up loosing information (ie
making a very low level of noise) if the internal bus width cannot
accommodate a dynamic range higher than the dynamic range of the input
data word.

CYMBACAVUM: Resonessence Labs Concero HP: USB-Powered Tour-De-Force

“I just want to keep listening…The Concero HP is simply the
best-sounding USB-powered device that I’ve ever heard. There’s really no
other competition.”

“Also, forget about the rumors you’ve heard that systems with ESS
DACs in the chain sound analytical and dry — the Concero HP is anything
but.”

Mr. T - CYMBACAVUM, November 8th 2013

Confessions of Part Time Audiophile commenting on Resonessence:

“Resonessence Labs started out with a single product – the flagship Invicta DAC ($3999).
That model remains my reference, and is one of the best DACs I’ve experienced at any price.”

“the crew at Resonessence Labs are some of the most responsive I’ve yet encountered in this industry.”

“So let’s recap for a minute here. Concero HD. Tiny USB powered DAC
with bleeding edge ESS Sabre chip, advanced format support, selectable
upsampling with proprietary filters, excellent build quality, and bonus
USB to SPDIF functionality. All for under a grand. Its simplicity and
size make it highly transportable, while its sound quality makes it
plenty capable for home use. Another giant slayer from Resonessence
Labs? Absolutely. Highly recommended.”

John Grandberg - Confessions of Part Time Audiophile, October 5th 2013

“It is obvious that I was more than impressed by the Resonessence
Concero HP. The DAC/headphone performance puts it up there with more
costly DACs, including its nearly $5,000 big brother Resonessence
Invicta.”

John Gadski - Publisher, Everything Audio Network, Sept 2013

“The Concero is for anyone using a highly
resolving computer based sound system looking for a natural sounding usb
dac that will not break the bank and get you fantastic soundstage,
great instrument separation, solid bass, pure mids and extended highs….
If you are looking to get into a USB dac that you can live with for many
years, the Concero should be on your list, there isn’t much else that I
have heard that will deliver a payoff this big.”

Keith Bevan – Digital Audio Directions, May 2013

“I can think of no greater bang for the
buck currently available in the budget digital space. Hands down a
triumph of innovation and sonic flair. Resonessence Labs CONCERO exceeds
expectations by a healthy margin and then some.”

John Darko – March 2013 – TONE Audio Review

“The Concero is a fundamentally good value
that stands out in a crowded field with a well-chosen set of features
and a focus on bringing the most out of good recordings for a
surprisingly affordable price.”

Sathyan Sundaram – March 2013 – Sound Stage Network

“In summary, I’m immensely pleased with
Resonessence Labs and their accomplishment here. This is truly a
standout DAC in a field of great competition”.

Project86 – December 2012 – Head-fi.org

“High resolution classical recordings are
simply stunning through the Concero as are jazz ensembles where wind,
fingers, bow, strings, brass, wood, and sticks on skins are responsible
for the sounds we hear.”

Michael Lavorgna – December 2012 – Head-fi.org

“When I first ordered the Concero,
I was planning to give it what I thought would be a severe test: a
head-to-head against my Ayre QB-9. That didn’t come to pass, as I got a
very fair offer for the Ayre and it’s now on its way to its new home.
So for now I’m just sort of ambling through my music collection (which
fills more than half of a 4Tb RAID array), listening for fun. And boy
howdy, am I having fun. Detail extraction and resolution on the Concero
is pretty remarkable. As I said in the INVICTA thread, listening to the
Baltimore Symphony recording of the Dvorak “New World” symphony was the
next best thing to having the score open on my desk. It’s also capable
of impressing with its dynamics. The beginning of the final movement of
the Poulenc Gloria, with the tenors blasting out of a totally black
background, is spectacular (same thing when Keith’s guitar jumps out of
nowhere at the beginning of “Brown Sugar.”). I can’t wait to hear the
Janowitz/Fischer-Dieskau/Berlin State Opera recording of “Carmina
Burana” on the Concero.”

Burnspbesq – November 2012 Head-fi.org
